There you go showing your lack of knowledge again. My GCI came with Monarch Superspeeds, that profile is no longer in production so my rails were modified to fit a K55 cushion profile properly, not any particular brand, just a K55 profile. Earls cue has a taper, why did you copy Earl and get a cue with a taper?? We must therefore conclude that you want to be like Earl.

My GC2 even came with a Monarch.

GC3 was out for decades before Diamond

That is correct. They used U23 cushion profile. Mine were very dead. So it wasn’t a problem changing the subrail angle since the subrail had to be replaced anyway.
 
I’m kinda worried hearing you say that. If you just replace the original rails with K55 and don’t modify the subrail then the playing dimensions will not be 50”x 100”. Each half of the table would be 2 rectangles instead of 2 squares. That would throw off the Diamond system.

When the CB hits the rail, you expect a certain amount of speed to be taken off the ball. On the Diamond rails it's the opposite, that the rails don't kill the speed at all. It was a “U” cushion number either 23 or 56 or something. It didn’t matter because you cannot get them in Superspeed not Artemis and they would not play up to modern standards.

The Monarch Superspeeds WERE a K55 profile, that the triangle design of the cushions, only back then they measured 1 1/8" across the top, same as a K66 profile cushions. BUT if you put the two makes against each other, end to end, the K66 profile cushions nose height was a 1/8" higher than the K55 cushions. So, mounting the K66 cushions on the Brunswick subrails, the nose height would end up being 1 9/16" high, an 1/8" higher than the Monarch Superspeeds. Later on, around 1978 or so, Brunswick changed the cushions to be 1 3/16" wide across the top, then they changed it again the the more modern version around the mid 90's to the 1 1/4" width across the top that they are today, but they never changed the triangle profile of the cushions, which is why the K55 profile still hasn't changed. K66 and K55 are two different profile cushions, always have been.

Which is why older GC's need the subrails modified, but most don't care, or even know.
 
I've been following this great thread and i have a question: if you have a GC3 or newer are the cushions you can buy now are proper fit, Y/N? Is it just the GC1's-2's that need rail mods. to accept current rubber profile? Thanks.. Great to have to RKC onboard. I'll take REALLY smart and crusty over sweet-n-ignorant EVERY time. ;)

GC3 and newer direct replacement cushions are available. From what I understand there are a few different manufacturers options as well.

Now are you implying the difference is the rail stiffness? It may be (although I personally doubt it). If it's as simple as that though, why didn't Diamond just switch to poplar instead of Oak rails. They would have saved money and had a better playing table. A win-win for everyone. I'm betting it's something beyond the rail stiffness though. 3 rail bolts vs 4 I don't buy. You can bank on a GC right in front of the rail bolt, then bank exactly in the middle of two rail bolts, and it will be the same.

Over time , he says he and Mark agreed on Super Speed for GC was better . LOL
Mark's been saying that all the years he ( Glen ) was blue labeling GC's.
