US Open 9-Ball, 2023, Atlantic City, Sep 25-30

That 'safety' seemed destined to scratch from the time he hit it... not sure what the plan was
Seemed like it would be more consistent to stun the ball to the rail and in behind a blocker, instead of rolling to a very narrow target zone. Not sure if he could have banked the ball back down table without getting stopped by another ball though.

All in all, a very poor match on Skylar's part, plus every roll went against him. Tough to fade that.

Yeah??? What's he going to do, start going around breaking all the Europeans's arms???
Start WWIII - All of the Europeans would be draft eligible and pulled into the fight. Shane has a disability so he isn’t draft eligible and Earl is too old. From there you just need to find 3 guys who can shoot pool and are too fat for military service - and I’m willing to bet there are more of those in the US than in Europe.

A great Billiards Digest podcast with Jeremy Jones sharing wisdom nuggets and a very nice interview with Earl at the end.

It's nice to see the Behrman family in attendance on Matchroom's facebook page. They have alot to be proud of...Barry Behrman was the Bruton Smith of pool. He was full of imperfections, fight, grit, determination, and class.

Bob, I've wondered about chess clocks. Where you've used them, are there instances of Player1 getting short-on-time, and Player2 playing safeties when they don't have to, or otherwise adding more time pressure to the Player1?
We set the clocks so that 20 seconds was added at the start of each inning. That means that if you play with reasonable speed, a safety exchange does not take any time off your clock. It also makes chess clocks suitable for one pocket.

But no one ever ran out of time in the leagues where we had clocks. The clock being there was enough to speed up the snails.

My guess is champion will be a lesser known from bottom half (Ko, Lechner, Zielinski or Yapp) rather than from top half (Shaw , Gorst) :D
But watch out for that confident kid Aleksa, he may be the surprise finalist from top half. Was on losers side in stage 1 and we know how dangerous those from losers side are in final single elimination rounds

What do you all think of Scott Frost in the booth?
I think he has a good voice, and very astute observations about optimal ball paths...

But he also has this irritating habit of low level, somehwat polite criticisms of player choices, that end up working out great, because they fit with that players preference/style... it's a very consistent part of his commentary, and frankly, always has been. He used to be a little more obnoxious about it, and has gotten better, but I have learned to expect it.

He is in general, an arrogant guy, and that is okay for a pro pool player, but he simply does not execute at the level of the players he is criticizing, so needs to dial that part back a tad bit. Karl Boyes in stroke can play with any of these guys, and his criticisms seem to be more on point.

I prefer him over these other yahoos who have zero pool knowledge. If I hear one more comment about snooker or snooker players or how they do that shot in snooker I will explode. Who gives a flying F about snooker while they are watching a freaking pool tournament?

He has the voice for it, and his commentary isn't too bad. Additionally, if it helps motivate him to improve his behavior while he is off screen and/or playing, win-win.

Zielinski's refusal to use the mechanical bridge on a very simple carom on a 9-ball has cost him three games so far.

wiktor played a braindead jumpshot that was always going to fly off. but is back in the next rack doing what he does best, running balls

Plus you can't get docked for a shirt foul in the booth. Or can you??? ;)

Zielinski's dogged more easy runouts in the last 15 minutes than he's probably dogged over the last six months.
