MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

Game 2

FSR breaks dry, Gorst can only play safe on the 1. Plays a very nice safe.

FSR jumps and nearly makes the 1, which hangs in the corner.

Gorst has a tough table with the 7-8 an inch apart. Runs 1-5. Leaves too much angle on the 6, so shape on the 7 will be very difficult. Decides to play safe, which he does to perfection.

FSR whiffs the tough kick on the 6 by a couple of millimeters.

Gorst takes BIH and plays a nice leave on the 7 under the circumstances, but decides to play safe again and executes nicely.

FSR kicks and nearly flukes in the 7, but scratches.

Gorst takes BIH again and easily finishes the 7-8-9.

Score 1-1.

Game 3

Gorst breaks dry but leaves the the CB within millimeters of the 1.

FSR plays an easy safe.

Gorst kicks and hits the 1, but leaves it hanging in the corner with the CB nearby.

Balls are clustered near the bottom corner, so FSR will have some challenges. Makes the 2 then faces a 3-7-8 or 3-9-8 combo. Makes the latter, and is now faced with a 3-7 carom that risks scratching. Executes perfectly, now table is wide open. Overruns shape on the 4 a little leaving a steep cut, and undercuts it. Wide-open layout for Gorst.

Gorst runs the 4, 5, 6, and 9 easily.

Score 2-1 Gorst.

That was the problem with that shot. He just banged the three hoping to get lucky.

Game 4

FSR breaks and makes the 1 top corner. Has a look at the 2 but it's a long tough cut with obstructed path back to the 3 on the top rail. Smart play is a safe, but he's agonizing over the shot. Finally shoots the safe and dogged it, leaving Gorst a makeable cut on the 2 but tough to get shape on the 3 without hitting it at full speed.

Gorst makes the two, but like predicted he had to hit the 3 at speed and it rolls behind the 5 and it completely hooked. Smashed a kick hoping to get lucky, but no such luck.

FSR has a good look at the 3, drains it, gets straight on the long 4 but has to shoot over the 7 as the CB is frozen to it. Executes to perfection getting perfect on the 5. Should be out from here. Drills the 6 into the side with a 15 mph stun at a fairly steep angle - impressive. Needs a long draw from the 8 to the 9 on the bottom end rail, but he draws it back right into the 9. He's forced to play a distance-only safe.

Gorst has a long tough cut on the 9, or cross-corner bank. Nearly flukes in the double-cross-corner bank, but leaves FSR with an easy shot.

Score 2-2.

Game 5

Gorst breaks from the right side for the first time. Misses the 1 but the 4 gets kicked in a bottom corner. Perfect shape on the 1. Table looks runnable, but shape on the 2 is tricky. Plays it across and back with perfect speed, looks easy for him from here. Runs the 3, 5, 6, and 7 nicely, but leaves a long steep cut down the rail on the 8. Drains it in Gorst-like fashion, gets absolutely perfect on the 9.

Score 3-2 Gorst.
