Quickly looking at the 'world snooker rankings'... At the bottom of the heap of 2 handfuls is Ali Carter with a 2023 total of: $492k/usd.
To prove the point. Lets jump all the way down to #50 on that list, and we find Elliot Slessor. With a meager year of only: $126k/usd
I know "making a living" is a subjective opinion, but I'd be high on the hog if I pulled in $126k/usd
I would love to know what the typical travel expenses are for those that don't have lucrative sponsorship deals...
A couple of thoughts about this year's MC:
-I was hoping Fedor would take some pressure off of SVB and allow him to play looser. Didn't seem that way, and Fedor looked tight as well. IMO, Sky continues to be our best at this format. The (hopefully) next captain should ride that horse into the ground.
- I don't think JJ has the ability to get this turned around. I think he has the knowledge, I think he truly wants to, I just think you have to look at the product he has put out there. Time to give someone else a shot.
- I get Shaw is trying to engage the crowd and grow his "personality", but some of his (and Filler's) antics were way over the top and immature. The other Euro's were celebrating and having fun and NOT making fools of themselves. IMO, you never want to show up your opponent, it may come back to bite you in the ass one day.
- Barry Hearn Laid down the gauntlet in his rambling pre- match press conference. He believes in order for the Americans to again become competitive, they are going to have to suck it up and travel to Europe and Asia to play in their ranking tournaments and the Euro tour events. It's going to take more than the same 4 or 5 doing it though. International travel might be hard to justify when they can stay local and play in the Greater Kenosha Invitational Open or some such regional tourney and win a few thousand not counting the calcutta.
-MR is pushing their Asian growth, but make no mistake, they are not going to forget the lucrative US market. In fact, MR boxing just opened up a gym in LA. MR boxing is the golden goose, and finances much of their secondary sports, if my memory serves.
