My Fargorate progression

Sometimes fargorates don’t mean squat. Mine is listed at 463 with 300 games in but when I play a fargorate tournament around here they make me play as a 600-650 based on “known ability”. I have a bad habit of overdoing it on the drinks during the fargorated tournaments though too.
They use digital pool for the brackets. You would think that me having to go 5-3 or 6-3 against another “460” would cause my fargorate to get flagged and increased but it never does.

Sounds like a guy who thinks he plays better than he does? I’ll trust Fargo over any players opinion of themselves.

Not my opinion. That’s at tournament directors discretion and we have 5-10 regular tournament players over 625 out here. The guys I gamble with are all over 600. I’m locked in as a 7 in APA 8 ball in Chicago and was supposed to be locked as an 8 in 9 last time was in Vegas after won a few minis as an 8. That’s at least 550 speed minimum around here.
So no not high on myself. The guy I fargorate race on Salotto has to play the tournaments at 500-550 and he has a listed fargorate of 449. And yes I’ve beat him more than I have lost to him. He’s an APA 6/7. Check Dr Dave’s chart. I waiver between 7 and 8 in 9 but I don’t much prefer the APA style of 9 ball play.

Where is "around here"?

The nice thing about Fargo is that it tends to be pretty accurate on a universal level whereas a lot of other rating system tend to be very locally dependent.

I'm a 550 with nearly 3000 games in Fargo. Without knowing you at all I would happily jump into the box with you… even if you do "beat up on 650 players".

Who knows, I may get my ass kicked, but I really doubt it…

7/8 In 9-ball?

475-550 max...

Likely towards the lower end of that scale.
I think he meant 7 in 8-ball and 8 in 9-ball. If he meant 7 or 8 in 9-ball then I agree with you.

EDIT - Just read his original message more and you are correct, he meant 7 or 8 in 9-ball.

My Fargo has been slowly going up over the last few tournaments even though they are few and far between. I know I’m over rated as is. I need some pointers as to how to get it to go down.

Lose every match you play by a large margin. Enter a lot of tournaments.
I'll go one further that if you are a big favorite over one opponent, win that match hill-hill, rather than lose. Then lose the next match by a large margin. This way your tournament dollar goes further, and you get more games in the system before you have to find another event.

More efficient but this runs the risk that the numpty will slop in the nine in the hill-hill game.

A larger risk is that you run into a TD who sees what's going on and fixes things.

Well I took your advice and entered a 650 and under tournament over the weekend. Lost my second match hill hill. On the B side I went on to win 9 matches in a row to come back and win the tournament. I’m never going to get my Fargo below 600 so I can enter some of those big 600 and under tournaments. Lucky for me the place doesn’t submit their scores to Fargo.

Can I hold a hundred? :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Ps, why would they use Fargo to determine entries, but not report? That is asinine.

I have no idea why they do that. There is 3 or 4 places around where I live that does this. Makes no sense to me either but I just play in the ones that let me play.

I played in my first tournament that reported Fargorate a couple weeks ago. I was not avoiding them, just none were available. It was a local Friday night event, with short races to 2-3 or so depending on fargorate. I think I played three matches, winning one and losing two. After 9 games, I'm at 386. I felt I could have given the 2 players that beat me the 7 ball. Such is pool:)

Two of my buddies that I used to gamble with daily about 20 years ago are in the mid 500's, with approx 400 and 600 robustness. They are the only players in my area I played even with at any time in my life that are in the system. However, none of us have the pool "bug" like we did when we were coming up, as we are in our mid 40's now. Based on this, I think I will end up at 565 if I ever get to a few hundred games. I'll update if I get more games in the system.

Maybe I can match up with people and say I'm a 386:):):)
Use it or lose it. Make some coin off that # while you can!!!
