So someone could be ahead 1 nil and push all balls up table and win the match by running out the clock?
You just described Chinese8b/Heyball to a 'T'. I don't see the huge issue with using a four ball Grady Rule. Will not change the nature of the game that much. Also most fans do not want to watch an old-school up-table bunt-a-thon. I know it doesn't happen that much but when trying to run on time all it takes is one or two of these to slow things up. It will still come down to the same usual cast of characters regardless of how they play.

That last part is the damn truth!
 
you cant put a time limit on the games. it changes the whole strategy of the play based on the time left.

you have to let all games be played out. if one player is too slow punish him as much as needed. such as losing balls, or forfeiture of games, or banishing from the tournament.
players will adapt quickly and soon like it. if needed it can be coupled with a shot clock. but a shot clock takes its toll on the good and bad. not as fair.
 
in pro tournament tennis for instance. they have a 20 or 25 seconds between points, after warned once you lose a point for each time there after.
some a game after the second time and loss of match after that.

if late for a match you lose one game for each 5 minutes until forfeiture.

I think the Grady Rule is worth a try….even make it three balls.
I‘ve also played a fair amount of one pocket with 9 balls.
 
Love shot clocks in theory but in practice they don’t work unless every table has an official policing it and let’s face it that’s not happening. Pool players are too selfish to volunteer their time and it would be too expensive to hire that much help. That’s not to mention impropriety with so many relationships and side action.

Instead a chess clock of sorts at each table could work if there was a way to integrate it with tournament staff so they could monitor it remotely. Players would click their side and have a certain allotted time for each match. Would take a little trial and error but it could work…at least in theory that is.

I have no horse in this race, but already imagine the length of the thread on this new rule implementation once the event starts o_O
 
Does anybody know what the field limits will be in banks, one pocket and nine ball?

Hmmm that “automatic buyin 5th round or later” part is new right? It’s been 12 years since I went so I’m sure a lot is new to me. Guess they’re just using the “card on file” to run that. Anyway, that’s interesting.
 
I’ve been under the weather the last few days so I’ve watched some old matches on YouTube. I watched a 1p match from 2006. The commentators said there was over 400 players in the 1p. So what’s the difference from then till now?

I also watched last years final even though I was there and watched it in person. With a 1 minute shot the match lasted over 3 hrs.

I don’t have the answer but imo they need to figure out how to utilize the tables better. Lots of time if a match ends kinda quick that table may sit there empty until the start of the next scheduled match which might be an hr or longer from then.

its the buyback system that does that. Jewett has some modified bb system but its never been tried.
