4 1/4?

The standard Diamond pocket width at Derby, which I experienced for eight years starting in 2006, was that a "four and a half inch" pocket allowed two balls side-by-side to get to the flat of the facing but not to the brink. By that standard, the picture shown is of a pocket smaller than 4.5 inches. All Diamond tables I saw at DCC were very, very similar for pocket opening except for the last year I was there when some 4 1/4 pockets slipped onto the floor.

Also note that if the pocket facings have a "down angle" it could be that the points are also 4.5 inches apart for such a standard Diamond pocket as the balls are sitting slightly under the facing due to the down angle.

That's what I tried to do in the second shot - position the balls within the jaws before they started to flare out to the rails.

I would say that the second picture shows slightly smaller than 4.5. The cloth/facings look "well used".

I've always measured point to point. Why would someone ever do it differently than that? Point to point is objective. Laying somewhere between the facings is not.

Well this is pool so I guess there shouldn't be a standard way of doing it.
Using 2.25 balls as your measuring device can give a much more consistent result. And quick, at least if you are dealing with a "four and a half inch" pocket.

Guess I need to review Dr Dave's TDF post. Somewhere back in time I started measuring from the points, which still seems to make more sense to me. If there's a gap between the balls it's bigger than 4.5". Otherwise, there's a range where you can jamb the balls between the facings.

"4 1/4?"

4 1/4 looks something like this.

Then you are playing something on that table that is not pool.

Exactly .. there is something wrong with the pockets or you can’t play lol 4.5 isn’t that tight. Mine are 4.25 and the pro’s play on 4 and balls go down the rail without a problem

Please tell me if I’m wrong but you just Take a measuring tape and measure tip to tip correct lol

Note the difference in miter angle: The left is 141.

That is what is making these pockets play difficultly.

The downward facing angle helps direct the OBs into the pocket but the miter is the bigger factor at play.
