What a tool!!!

rules are there for a reason and if there isn't some punishment for not following one then there is no reason for the rule in the first place.

and what follows is people don't care to learn the rules, or follow the rules, and rules then become unfair to those that do. just the opposite of the original intention.

Geez, I kind of like the guy now 😦
My first impression of Josh was very negative due to his antics such as pounding on the floor and screaming like a banshee when he wins.

Everything else has pointed to him being a good guy. This video is another example.

(I will still roll my eyes at his celebratory antics.)

I had a day to process this and at first I thought he was in the wrong. It's not a local tournament where friends shoot against each other. So here's the unknown would she had called a foul if he accidentally fouled by touching a ball on the table stretched out. We'll never know but rules are rules and he would have forfeited his time plans and money if the outcome was different. That's why rules are in place to make sure there are no questionable issues. As far as the statement no idea who said it but they were in the wrong for saying it as in issue to the rules but they were in their rights emotionally to protect her if that makes sense. Enough of that touchy Feely stuff chalk up and break.
I think this is a bad comparison. Shooting stretched out and touching nearby balls makes the shot easier, and one he might not take at all knowing he better not touch any balls. . In this case, the foul of not calling the combo had no impact on the difficulty of the shot.

I think both things can be true at the same time. He is within his rights to call the foul AND he is a douchebag for doing so.

Stooping to following the rules? CSI rules EXPLICITLY states ALL combos, kicks, caroms are not obvious and need to be called. Would you have the same opinion if Shane enforced the rule?
I must've read different rules, bcuz the ones I read stated a warning will be given to both players about shot calling first, B4 a ball in hand foul is called, at the refs discretion, on a shot that's obvious to all present. If the ref didn't see the shot in question and is only going by statements from the players, a warning shall be given. Or perhaps I don't read and understand the printed word correctly.
Going by the vehement responses towards the guy after the match, I'd say they went too far in calling a ball in hand foul. As previously stated, that's why I don't play tournaments. Too many hair splitters making decisions about the coin. I despise people that must win at any cost. Period.

It wasn't a foul. She turns the table over to him.

You can play tournaments and just play by the rules being used. If she called the combo like others do in similar situations, there wouldn't have been an issue.

The CSI Rules used in this tournament have been posted throughout the thread.

Watch at 39.48 this tool calls Roadrunner a foul on an obvious combo that half the pros would never call in a match. Hoag did did not say what was said at the end of the match.
i think the video has been taken off youtube which is probably a good idea, not the proudest of moments by either of the parties, if it was me i would not talk about the incident again, in the heat of the moment things can be said which probably shouldn't be, as a parent i have regretted things i have done in front of my daughter and i have told her after the fact that i was indeed wrong and to learn from some of my past mistakes

i received a reply to more context to the story but my opinion doesn't change other than making the tournament directors aware of Hoangs actions

winninggamblerbc we deal with people with class normally. And he had none. From before the match, before the camera was turned on. From disgusted about the magic rack sav was using that was CSI approved even though she offered to share with him, from him standing in front of the table the entire match when we asked him nicely to take a seat and he refused. And then pulled that move on her, saying “your mistake, take it easy” with a smile on his face. And his own friend, stood up and walked away saying “he’s my friend but I don’t agree with that” We tried to stay classy but wishing his tip falls off and lose was the mildest thing we could have said. As a grown adult, I’m sure we’ve all said and heard worst quite frankly… We tried, we really tried to keep our mouth shut and not interfere. -mom

you are the bad sportsperson not the opponent. you wont ever understand that though.
and you taught your daughter wrong as well.

This is pathetic. It's yet another attempt to dismiss Savannah's lack of self-control as acceptable. It wasn't, and it's very sad to see that her mother is teaching her that when she encounters situations such as these, she need not take great pains to maintain her dignity.

With the wrong influences in her life, Savannah may never be an elite (Top 25 Fargo in the world) player. Hopefully, this will be a learning moment for Savannah's mother, whose low standards are beneath the standards our game must strive to attain. Similarly, if this is the kind of demeanor we continue to see from Savannah, let's hope she's not a poster girl for women's pro pool for long.

I wish Savannah and her mother well, but it seems their acts need some polishing right now.

You said it perfectly.

Playing in tournaments constantly for the past month plus, I can’t help but think 13 year old Savannah is living a very unbalanced life for a 13 year old.

I assume it’s by her choice, but it seems like her parents could say no to her? Does anyone else think this is a little strange?

It is new normal many sports.

A nomadic lifestyle is something the wealthy can afford. Pool players have no shortage of wealthy players.

Living in one place too long historically creates a lot of problems. If you can afford it, enjoy the pool lifestyle.

Its a lot better than being broke and average and stuck in one neighborhood and being average income.

Pool players get a taste of what its like to live outside their normal routine.

What is distasteful is the lack of enthusiasm by pool players to bring people to pool halls? Its a fun place to go out with a large group, then make plans to enjoy other activities in the area.

Most people don't understand pool.

she does school too, online school. and i guess many young sportspeople that are trying to go pro live unbalanced lives. she's a social media phenom, has a lot of sponsors, but in pool you will soon know if you're exceptionally good. jasmin was winning tournaments at her age

Yes, she's taking on challenges that most of us will never know, and perhaps she's wound up tight. It's something her parents must manage to keep her well grounded.

As for Jasmin, that's not accurate, although it could possibly be in lesser European events. Jasmin's first win at the European Championships came at the age of 19. She also won at the World Games at 19. She had dabbled in WPBA play earlier, but she was not a top 10 player on the WPBA until she was about 20, when she won the BCA Open in Las Vegas.

The only players in the history of women's pro pool that enjoyed great success at Savannah's age were Jean Balukas and Loree Jon Jones, both of whom had won a world championship by the age of 15.

Let's give Savannah a little time. By the time she's 18, however, we'll already know whether she'll ever be counted among the greats. The true greats nearly always show it when they are 18 or less.

Biologically the human does not become an adult until 20 years or more.

However brain development specific to billiard skills is not well documented.

Its great a parent is willing to invest their child's youth in to a sport that has little promise for anyone's future.

How that parent acts or youth players acts? Everyone still excuses Earl, so...

It wasn't long ago Billy Thorpe had an issue, now he is reformed. Those are pool player stories, rehab and recovery people.

Fair enough, but each of Mike Sigel, Earl Strickland, Loree Jon Jones, Jean Balukas, Wu Jiaqing, Siming Chen, Alex Pagulayan, Allen Hopkins and others were monster players by the age of 16.

As she's being home educated, Savannah will have many options beyond pool if she fails to become one of pool's elite. She's not betting the house on pool. Wishing her well.

she won the youth division in the european championship in several disciplines when she was 13. i mentioned jasmin because albin talked about her early successes in the commentary booth on the stream last week
