SBE

I went last year and I believe it was $40.00 For the long weekend,(Fri/Sat/Sun.) I paid, but thought it was a little high as I was expecting @ $30 .
I seen a T-shirt I really liked and was going to buy UNTIL they told me the price of $30. I was not gonna pay $30 for a cheap/paper thin T-shirt. So much for 2023 memories of SBE.
This yr I am just going to do sat/sun. and may-b do a T-shirt or something. We shall see....
The FOOD prices will always be high, that's a lock. But maybe if the admission came down there would be more vendor sales. Last year I felt as though I was getting ripped-off rather than having a pleasant/memorable experience.

I agree. Who wants to pay to watch amateurs on a bar box?
Watch some of the money matches....though there are less each year. Seen some absolute thrillers. More exciting when they miss a little. Hennessey vs Atencion a couple years bavk was the greatest thing I ever saw in a match.

What do you guys think that Center costs to rent for 6 days?

You ever go to a concert I lately?

Do you mean the pro players need to support tournaments? They have to decide if a tournament makes financial sense. If the event is guaranteed to cost them money, they have to pass. Or maybe their sponsor decides to foot the bill for the advertising, but you can't put the burden on the player.
Mr you are right !! And you are a poop hero of mine !! All I was saying when the players who are finishing hi in the tournaments all want them to pay like match room there looking at it wrong !! We all know the never will be’s actually fund derby so please just put up with all of the rounds

If you drive 50 miles each way and stay over one night and eat, $20 is not much. You're going to spend more than that for an evening at the pool hall where you see the same old players.

My beef is no more one pocket tournament.
And no more 3c event too, right?

If you look at it from the other side though, does a store really want customers wandering around touching merchandise and asking questions if $10 is a concern?

How about if there's one more condition: nothing costs $10?

I also do not own any $30 t shirts!

I must say there are more tits on that table in your avatar than the usual table 🤣

The funny thing to me is that this event qualifies as requiring WPA sanctioning based on the number of international players listed as attending and the amount of money added. I don't see it on the WPA calendar so I assume it is unsanctioned. It's also not on the list of unsanctioned events that WPA is treating as sanctioned. While I know this whole battle has been primarily been between Matchroom and WPA, the WPA letters and policies were written generically enough to apply to all promoters. Will they ban players that attend this event or will they selectively-enforce their policies? If they are not consistent with their enforcement for all promoters, it weakens their position against Matchroom.

I'm probably going this year, because I want to get a few things and would rather see them in person than buy online. I agree that the $20 entry is a bit much, but for me it's also about the experience. I go fewer years than I don't.

I too liked the old venue more.

I think WPA has, more or less, given up the fight for now. Matchroom has 95% of the elite players signed and, if provoked, is in a very strong position to play hardball. Of course, Matchroom probably does not want things to move in that direction. Every indication is that WPA has lost the battle and, if they are to avoid ending up with egg on their face, must drop the politics gracefully.

I agree. I’m just pointing out that their last memo listing specific WNT events to be “treated as sanctioned” when really they don’t plan on enforcing their policy at all, makes them look even more ineffectual. It would have demonstrated more integrity if their last memo just said they were cancelling their policy.

I am not inclined to agree, Matt. They are trying to paint a picture of a gradual retreat. If that's how they choose to spin it, I'm OK with it, as long as they are headed down the path of full withdrawal from the edicts of Qatar.

Fair point. I tend to take a black/white spin on things. The world is grey.

I don't think $20 gate fee for the day is high at all. It is very reasonable, in my opinion. Also, I'm not sure where folks are shopping, but $30 for a T-shirt with a logo or pool-related print is the norm. It is not high either. Plus, you don't have to pay for shipping and handling.

We try to support pool-related industry members, and I but T-shirts, caps, sports jerseys, et cetera, to suppose our pool industry members. I wish BCA members (industry members) would do the same and support pool players. That's what folks should be upset about, not Allen Hopkins' once-a-year pool extravaganza.

Yes, Valley Forge was THE BEST venue, but what is special about Super Billiards Expo has always been there is something for players of all caliber, young, old, seasons, amateur, and action junkies. The vendors are great places to shop, and you get to see many of the pros. This year, Darren Appleton will be in the house, along with Jayson Shaw and many others.

And also, in my opinion, Hopkins' always gets THE BEST trophies. One year, Keith McCready and Shannon Daulton came to the finals of the Pro Am, and between frames, the three of us were outside smoking cigarettes. Shannon and I both were saying we didn't care about the money as much as the trophy. We both wanted that trophy. Keith wasn't into the trophy and wanted the dough. When the dust settled. Shannon won that beautiful trophy, and to this day, he will agree it's his favorite.

We are not going to SBE, haven't for a few years, but the main attraction for us was not the tournament. It was the action table. That's where the fun starts for us.
