2025 DERBY CITY ALL 3 FINALS ON LAST SUNDAY THOUGHTS....

It just makes it official, the 9 Ball final finished about 11am Sunday in 2024, after 26 hours of continuous play. This just gives them room for a break I guess. They still won't be able to stick to a solid schedule though. E.g the Libutis match before the final took 3 hours. So I think the final will have to be played pretty late Sunday to make any real impact to the schedule issues.

One part of the two they followed through. Let's see if they do for the cap also.

This might be the most intellectually disabled decision that DCC has ever made.
WOW! What a bunch of morons.
What if one player is in 2 finals with buybacks? Is that fair given that they might have finished a previous final days before and gotten the chance to rest vs having to grind through multiple finals in the same day? Penalized for doing well?
Are they going to pay hotel and food expenses for the Banks finalists to stay they entire event just to play the finals the last day?
What if the Banks finalists only came for the Banks event?
Just when you think someone can’t possibly stick their head up their *ss any further, someone says “hold my beer”
Worst case scenario….player is on the buy back side on all three finals.

What part did they follow through on? Last year had 487 in banks, 402 in 1P, and 500 in 9B. Hardly kept to a cap.
The cap of 400 per event was supposed to take place starting in 2025. So we won't know if that holds until Jan. (They may have said in earlier years of having a cap, I can't remember now).

I really don't agree with all those concerned about the Sunday part of the Derby. Sunday is the easy part.

The real problem is getting to Sunday in an orderly and punctual fashion. The nightmarish scenario for the upcoming Derby City Classic remains having seventy-five players left in the 9ball division at end of day Friday, and unless new administrative procedures are implemented. that's a real danger. If it comes to that, Saturday's play could, once again, go until sunrise on Sunday, and seeing players yawning at the table will be as common as it has been in the past two Derby City Classics.

I trust Diamond to do what's necessary to avoid making Saturday a disaster, but if they feel that the "same old same old" procedures will be enough to avoid a nightmarish Saturday, they are most likely mistaken.

Filler is gonna be a busy boy on Sunday
Derby City is awfully tough to handicap as it is such a grind. Certainly, Filler and Gorst are the most likely to be chasing Master of the Table on Sunday, but you never really know. Long proven all-around players like SVB, Pagulayan, Woodward and a few others cannot be taken lightly at the Derby.

My vague recollection is that they did indeed implement a player cap last year and many guys who waited too long to sign up were locked out.

Called Diamond today and they are back to 4 1/2 inch pockets which will definitely help speed things up. We shall wait and see.

Ummm... I think the DCC is not a WPA sanctioned event. I think it has enough international players that failure to sanction causes a ban automatically. Or, I could be wrong.

So, if one of the "finalists" has a buy-back left, there might be two finals in that event. Is it possible to have the last two players each with a buyback?

It's not clear but it seems that the only matches on Sunday will be the three finals. (Or up to six finals.)
great point

If there's a DCC without Filler, it has at least 1 asterisk, probably 4

If and when DCC ever goes to the Four Ball rule in One Pocket is when everything will speed up. One Pocket remains the roadblock to expeditious scheduling of matches due to the excessive length of too many matches. For the naysayers, such a rule change will not change anything, except shorten the length of these matches appreciably! The best players will still be there in the end, maybe even moreso than with the current rules.

I'm old enough to remember when they changed 9-Ball from "Roll Out, i.e. Push Out" to "One Foul, BIH." Everybody screamed (including me) at this dramatic rule change (designed to speed up matches interestingly enough), but it turned out to be a big to-do over nothing, as the best players continued to dominate the tournaments.

The really big plus to such a rule change is that all the jokes about how long One Pocket matches take will begin to go away. People will actually sit through entire matches that will take one to two hours max, and enjoy watching the game and appreciate the skill of the players. One Pocket in it's present form is nearly unwatchable, especially when the balls begin to gather down table. Bunt, bunt, bunt, bunt until your tip falls off! Half the audience, which has shrunk from 30 to 6 people have fallen asleep! :)
