Dechaine vs Krause

I’ll take Mickey for $100 if the other guy doesn’t want it. Zelle or PayPal after match
I was flying all day yesterday and forgot about the match. I’m haven’t got far enough to see who won. I didn’t confirm my offer earlier

Anyone know if home court/table/room was an advantage to either player?
Well I suppose anywhere in the USA would be home court for Mike:)

I'm pretty sure most of the tables Mike plays on currently are GC's, and since Krause is on tour, most of his competitive play is on Diamonds. During the chat, one of the locals said all the tables in that room were GC's except the one stream table was a Diamond.

I did see the "diamond pin ball machine bounce" get Mike a couple of times and the CB rolled too far.

I'm wondering whether they are racking the one on the spot. For pretty much all of Dechaine's career, the one was racked on the spot, and it seems unlikely he agreed to anything else.
We agreed to play magic rack, one on the spot and no soft breaking. The WNT format favors the a defensive player IMO And is not a format I am interested in. Personally, I wanted to play 10 ball but that seems to be a game of the past.

My home court is TJ’s Classic Billiards in Waterville, ME. About an hour north from where we played.

Thx?
My or Mikes?
Questioning this..... for spelling.
I'm not a keyboard spell ck warrior, but those are different.
One ball on the spot... good info, Mike played his best yrs with that set up.
Would think Mike has been there/played there before, who picked the table in that room?

How did you guys articulate an agreement not to soft break? I assume it wasn't the 3-point-rule or else you'd have said that. Was more of a gentleman's agreement like "no Corey Deuel baby breaks ala 2000s" or was it more like "no babying the 1 ball up table to the corner pocket ala 2020s" or was it more like "let's agree to just whack it ala WNT".

Mike- you are an elite player. It would be great if you returned to play full time. I wish 10 ball was played more often, but as you said, it seems to be fading away.

Yes, the comeback was short lived. It was tough to walk away from a job that offers great pay, vacations, health insurance, 401k, etc. I also struggled with the new WNT break format. All in all, 9 ball is a much different game now from when I was competing. I hope Matchroom continues their success and the sport grows. If I am able to see a great return on investment, I will screw the cues back together and commit 100% towards it!
You made the correct choice.

There's still no future in pool unless you're Filler or Fedor at the moment.

You're in a great position to play occasionally if you still love the game and not have to worry about eating or your future.

Mainplayer is Mike

Ten ball is a working man$ game.... giving the better player the upper hand and minimizing the luck factor so he can pay his rent.

You played a hell of a match. Well done!

Interesting observation from an elite player with a foot in the past and present - that the WNT format favors a more defensive approach.

I do think tighter pockets and the break rule curb offensive tendencies compared to the past. Players do have to be better at safeties and jumping.

Yet the modern 9-ball game still seems plenty offensive to me. Chua, Capito and Krause, among recent MR Open winners, were very aggressive. I think there is still room for that ...

I believe that is just the caliper of player! The new generation of players are incredible shot makers. But I am not seeing as many packages put together as I once did. Of course, you have Fedor and Filler who are just on a different level, but their break has to be working for them to get it done. When I watched the Derby, I wondered if Filler would have been as dominate as he was if the corner ball wasn’t going in.

Well done, Mike! Something of a time capsule match for 9ball fans with one on the spot and break from anywhere in the kitchen. It made for some exciting pool.
It's almost as if 9 ball was not broken back then after all...

Way to give em hell yet again Mike! Im guessing your keeping your job has been worth it 100%. I'm more a fan now than ever, I do love rooting on working Joe's against the pros. I hope it won't offend you if I clock you as the best of that class

Here you go bud, 10 Ball:

Great to watch you playing again!

I'll admit that I am a terrible pool spectator, (for all games that aren't 1p) I'm usually good to watch about three minutes of rotation and I'll head to the nearest table to hit some around. That said, twenty below zero kept me in the house all evening and I settled in and watched the last 2 hours or so of that match and enjoyed it quite a bit. The break was working for both players and it got tight at the end. Good showing by both players!
