Incredible banks performance by Billy Thorpe yesterday - 11 in a row

Also just like straight pool, If shaw/filler/ghorst/shane set out to set a high run record under specific high-banks rules, they'd probably run quite a high number.
One thing that wasn’t mentioned in this thread. Is in banks there’s very very little luck. The luck in the game is there but isn’t clear. It’s about lanes and having shots available. It’s not about “rolls”. If the balls cooperate and you get shots-you still must hit them good. Somedays there are just less lanes. It’s hidden luck.

Great game. Play banks only for 30 days and when you go back to regular pool, every shot looks like a hanger-I’ve done that twice. Helped my 1P and other games soooo much

One last thought.

Billy is young enough and on the improve.

I don’t think we have seen near the best version of his bank game yet.

By the rail I’ve liked his game for a long time, now he’s stepping up on the big stage and making great things happen. He has the potential to become a much better banker over the next decade.

Most of the great bankers weren’t in their 20’s at their best. Billy sure can get better and be one of the all time greats in banks I’m very confident in him & his ability based on what I’ve seen the last couple years.

Banks is an American game, Billy is American as possible! How great would it be to see him up there with Bugs. Taylor. John Bback. Shannon. Gregg and a couple of the others. He’s close now! We need an undisputed “Best” at something in our sport in the modern era.

No pressure if you read this Billy😂

We sat together watching Mcup in Vegas a couple years ago. Fun 3 days🤩🇺🇸

This might be an idea for an enterprising streamer.
Can't miss an opportunity:

Just like the recent straight pool high run challenges, a banks challenge should also be on a Gold Crown with factory pockets. The rails are better for banking, and the pocket will accept more banks.

Carry on;)

Yeah what he did considering that equipment does add to his accomplishment a ton. Those pockets ain’t made for banks!

Fatboy speaks the truth!

All of my pool playing these days, is on my table at home, and about 95% of that is shooting banks. I just roll the balls out on the table, and start shooting. Often, you see what WOULD be a very straightforward bank, BUT, the pocket is blocked by another ball. So you can't shoot it. And sometimes there simply are not any open lanes (or pockets), as Fatboy points out. That is the luck part. If all the lanes are blocked, then there just isn't anything to shoot, except for a safety. And that is why playing banks with a full rack is so much harder than playing short rack banks. The table congestion makes it tough.

Full rack is a very difficult game. It’s a lot more moving and tactical as you know. Both short rack 9B and full rack are great games. It’s really too bad it’s such a regional game. I’ve often wondered why it hasn’t caught on and spread out more. I was super happy to see it in Vegas this past week. Maybe it is!

i thought apex and GC used the same rubber?

Truman banked 31 or 34 in a row practicing he told me. I can’t recall if it’s 31 or 34, one of the 2. I believe him. Said he was tossing balls out and banking them, I didn’t ask the details. I’ve banked 10-11 several times throwing balls out and making room as needed (lanes) and I’m sure I’ve banked as many without making lanes as well. I’m not a great bank player, but my bank game wasn’t my weakest game.

What Billy did is super strong, but it’s not near a record. He banks 10 in a row everyday i’m certain of that, even a bad day he’s got 10 in him for sure.
I banked about ten in a row one time at your house! I was teamed up with Cotton and you were teamed with Max. I know you remember that one! It felt like I didn't miss a bank for an hour, I was making everything! :)

I remember that well, you caught a gear and the bank opened up.

Funny how banks is a streaky game, when they start going in, they just keep going. And other times they just won’t go.

You also banked a ton playing Greg Sullivan full rack banks too. You played him a few times there as well. I watched part of that.

That pool room was the Hungarian nuts, I’m not saying that cause it happened to be at my house, it just was. NickV agrees too. I miss that so much.

Here is Eddie Taylor talking about his high runs. Starts at 39:12

Beautiful! He still looked pretty solid considering he could barely see and was close to 80. I saw him at his peak in the 1960's and he hit them like that all day long, no editing needed. He creamed the pocket on every shot! There was never a roll-off when Eddie was shooting. He overcame any bad table rolls with sheer power.

Loved playing there! Truth be known I could never beat Greg in the long run at Banks (we played even) or One Pocket (I got a ball). He hid his speed well until necessary, like against me.

P.S. I dusted off my cue after a two and a half year layoff, and am headed to Vegas this week to play in the Bank Pool tourney just for the hell of it. I'm guessing that at 80 I have an age advantage.

They do not roll off when they don't touch the cloth.
Verified.

Nice Jay , glad you are playing again. I’m gonna start back as well. Good luck in Vegas, I was just there for a month. I’ll be in LA in April for a few days. 👍

What would be the easiest way to build a run? A series of 5 ball runs. 9 ball racks or 15 ball racks? I would guess a series of 5 ball runs.

The less balls on the table the easier banks is and the runs come then. Traffic is your worst ennaminy in banks
