I'd be in for Chicago, only a 6-hour drive instead of 18 (DFW) lol. Hell, just have it at the Minneapolis Convention Center. :ROFLMAO:
 
I guess I'm not playing the open anymore. It was nice being in my backyard and a 30 minute drive. It's also kinda sad that no big events are coming to Jersey anymore. SBE was crappy.
 
My vote would be for the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno Nevada. Reno has a tremendous pool past history with all those Sands tournaments in years past. It would be great to have something over here on the west coast other than Las Vegas.
 
Texas is not a bad idea but they should consider the weather, safe and nice location near to the airport and other amenities. IMO Chicago or Pittsburgh would be more ideal during the month of August for US open.
 
Meh....the heat is a non factor imo...pool will be played indoors with ac. But then I'm in the low country of SC and heat is just a everyday deal during summer.

Organization i was with, rented Ballys for about 2-3 days and we were talking $100k and that was a smaller venue and this was a few years ago. I could only imagine what MR pays
 
Europeans can fly in then take a train to the venue.
Europeans and others are used to trains.
I'm sure they'd enjoy that.
 
Never know Bob, pool players are unpredictable. Might wanna fly into Chicago, lotta trains there, like other big cities.
 
How about just putting it back in Chesapeake Virginia where it started, and where it always was before they bought the rights and moved it to Vegas, then A/C?

Chesapeake has a great convention center, good hotels conveniently close, plenty of restaurants in the area, as well as Q-Masters nearby for all the action that was always prevalent the week of the Open.

A Midwest location with good facilities, clean and financially affordable, would be great for the next U.S. Open. Texas does have a strong pool community, but August in Texas is hot as Hades.

It is also important to have the venue near airports since there will be many people, hopefully, flying in.

I never liked Las Vegas or Atlantic City for pool events because of the distractions, and Vegas in particular has become extremely expensive. Atlantic City just ain't what it used to be, sad to say, but I do think the Harrah's venue from a railbird's view looked very nice.

St. Louis would be a good place if a venue can be located that meets all the requirements needed for an event of this size.

Vegas is pricing themselves into bankruptcy .. no value in going anymore at this point.
 
i guess in the grand scheme of things, with all these international players, it doesn't matter from a participatory perspective if it's in the geographical centre of the country or not. the players will be there anyway. i suspect the fans will too

Precisely. The Peri Open, with a first prize of $40,000 this year, is the lead in to the Hanoi Open in the first half of October. If the Manila Open is a success and becomes a mainstay, the Manila and Reyes will take up late October-early November.

My guess is MR will always want the Florida Open to front run the U.S. Open. I doubt they would move the U.S. Open beyond early September. I expect them to stick to August.

The WPC takes up July, and the Scottish, UK and European opens seem to be settling in around March-April-May.

MR doesn’t really do anything the first few months of the year. Hard to see that changing.

They also have to leave space on the calendar for WPA/Predator and other events to prevent future conflict. The more MR settles on established dates, the more Predator/WPA can do the same. Good for all, ideally.

One place is the philadelphia convention center that is the host to many attractions. 14000 hotel rooms and many different venues and layouts in this center.

Your description is the reason I've lived/stayed in the high desert since early 70's.
Warm/DRY.... Tho on the too much dry side.
