From Oscar's FACEBOOK YESTERDAY after Johnny called to apologize a couple days before:

"Well folks, all the memes, bad mouthing and BS can stop. I’m a little shocked but I’m finally paid up.

Johnny and I are SQUARE.

Two of my backers will still be getting their cut too just like they bet.

Good luck Johnny on everything and thanks for making me whole.

Guess I’m taking the kids to Disneyland on Johnny. 🐭"

What happened to Oscar goes against the unwritten "gentleman gambler's" code. Sadly, even though Johnny is a Hall of Famer, a Player of the Decade, and one of pool's all-time great champions, this incident will likely follow him because of the reach of social media.

That said, he ultimately stepped up and did the right thing. Johnny is a man of strong faith, and I have no doubt this weighed heavily on him. Perhaps he simply wasn't in a position to make things right sooner. The fact that he has done so now speaks volumes about his character.

I'm happy for Oscar, and I hope Johnny is in a good place in his life today. From what I understand, he's had more than a few curveballs thrown his way over the years. Now he can move forward knowing he made things right, with one less burden on his conscience.

I am glad Johnny cleared up what I believe was an air barrel. Such things can haunt you a long time, pull your karma way off center and cause a lot of bad things to happen if you are a good person. Funny thing, it doesn't impact a snake nearly as much, just anudder tuesday for them!

Anyway, glad Oscar, his children, and Johnny all have their world's spinning properly!

I've met Johnny and he was totally best foot forward and even came over to sweat my match. Dissolved the guy I was playing. :ROFLMAO:

I think he did give himself a temporal discount on this one though. :ROFLMAO:

From what I remember reading, it was much more then just an air ball. He also took the money from his own backers, to keep for himself. So, he not only did not pay Oscar, but he kept the cash that his Backers gave him, instead of paying Oscar off with it.

Now that is what i expect from a pool player

I felt that the ripping off his backers part sounded much worse then if he had just made a bet with his own money, and then decided not to pay Oscar. As a combined thing, just really bad. I remember reading that he only gave Oscar like a $100 of the money, on the day that he lost. This is all just hear say though.

I had thought it was the other way around, that the backers didn't give him the money to pay. If they did and he just kept the money, that's pretty bad. At least he finally made it right.

Okay, that is not the story that I read, but if that is the way it went down, then that would be completely understandable. I have been backed in the past, and then after losing, my backer would not give me the money to pay off, and that put me in a really bad position. I once had to give up my cue, because I did not have the cash to pay, for that reason. You really need to have a backer that you really know that you can trust. Best to have the money held by a 3rd party, before playing.

That is absolutely not what was reported. The previous post (that Johnny had the money from his backers and pocketed it) was what was reported. If it had been his backers refusing to pay then IMO Oscar would never have put him on blast like he did.

Johnny addressed it in an interview later as to his reasons (IIRC he said he needed the money to give to his ex wife or she wouldn’t let him see his kids).

No excuses for what he did. But at least he finally made it right.

It’s nice of Oscar to be so gracious about this. Pure class.
Oscar is the epitome of class. Learned from his father who is also a great player. He supports youth pool and the game as a whole.

At his level he has been able to make money gambling on pool, as a room owner and top table mechanic.

He doesn't need the best of it to get into action either.
