Do you think that playing 14.1 / Straight Pool can help a players game out at all? At least with Consistency?

Well, here's the link.
The Caution is....uh could distress sensitive persons.
Might as well link my Preacher thread too. 🤷‍♂️

Playing a variety of games will definitely increase your breadth of knowledge. Also good to keep the game fresh and avoid burn out.

- Me, needs to listen to my own advise and play some bank pool...

Do you think that playing 14.1 / Straight Pool can help a players game out at all? At least with Consistency?

For example, if the player has not played in a long time, and wants to get back into playing, and hopefully get their old A game back?

I always hated doing drills. Never had a Pre Shot routine, that I know of. Other then what came natural, after playing for hours, every single day, for many years.

Do you think that just practicing 14.1 would be helpful, or would drills be better? Doing any kind of drills were always so boring to me though, but I understand that is probably why I never improved past a certain level.

Thinking back, I feel that I was never anything but just a Banger. Always really loved the game though. I guess not nearly enough though.

I have not really played any in around a year, and really wanting to get back into playing again. I really miss the game.

I know that I am going to be really rusty though.

Thanks for any thoughts.
I've played a lot of nine ball for a lot of years. I decided to try shooting straight pool/equal offense for a while. I found out my position pretty much sucked. Area position does not work in straight pool. Some times you're off an inch and an open table turns into no shot. It's a great game and really good practice.

One idea might be to start with Equal Offense. https://drdavepoolinfo.com/faq/drill/equal-offense/

Expand your mind. It All relates in some degree. 🤷‍♂️
Sometimes it's just a slight switch that is the light switch. Don't curse the dark. Turn on the Lights.
Finding pleasure or satisfaction is the goal in recreation. Whether it's straight pool or nine ball is inconsequential. The same Basics apply. Basic knowledge in any competition can translate. Often a translator is required for clear understanding. Cultural differences can provide opposing interpretations. So as an example, uh 12 thumbs down is one short of a full load. (Well where I come from. 😉). Hope I haven't peeed in your Cherios. Good Morning. 🤷‍♂️
You didnt pee in my cheerios
you missed and wet your pants😱
your advocacy for cue ball last is voracious
but sometimes you are like a religious zealot or a political fanatic
shoving your belief/opinion into a conversation that has nothing to do with the subject you covet

In my experience....I think all games help each other.
There's certain thresholds I found, getting into your second rack run was important, then forties and fifties, then 80's was a big jump, then over 100 which in my college yrs was occurring.
I never ran more than 100 because the game was usually over and I wanted to play/bet on the next game.
Spencer and Joey gold in my college yrs were 50 ball runners when I was in the 80's, so I always won.

The fact that the straight pool long run record holder said cueball last, uh kinda makes it an overlooked aspect of 14.1.
And "help a players game out" is in the topic.
And I never got on your lawn. I might have peed on it but never left the sidewalk to do it. So "Get Off My Lawn!!" Is an inappropriate request. 😉

Not advocating....just testifying. Speaking as a Witness. Smile and say, Witless. Shrug 🤷‍♂️
I might not see things the same as a Jahova's Witness, I do respect their dedication.
The sensitivity to my message has me experiencing a flashback.
"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH" comes to mind. 🤷‍♂️ 😁

the colonel as i recall got arrested for his out burst ....
the fact that some elite players look at cue ball last doesnt mean its the best way for everybody
since if it was the best way ALL PROS WOULD DO IT THAT WAY
and to quote you above
And "help a players game out" is in the topic
thats like a newsroom taking a sound bite and using it to make the point they want to
if you understand this is the question asked
the question was

Do you think that playing 14.1 / Straight Pool can help a players game out at all?

not will looking at the cue ball last help my game
have a nice day....😊

The skills that are developed playing or practicing 14.1 transfer nicely to other games. The precision cueball is Huge in building large breaks. 9 ball or any short rack game, uh 7 ball or even 6 ball have more wide open space to move about. So a shotmaker can deal with longer or more challenging shots as long as there's a shot there.
14.1 will have more situations where delicate maneuvering is required or uh rewarded. More short shots and short moves to shape on the.next ball. Being on the right side for a natural angle is Basic straight pool.
I do advocate 14.1 practice, with Proper being the addendum. 14.1 practiced properly can build a solid base for any game on the green baize.
If you consider how to practice off topic you won't want to look at these 2 links.

WELL, "Do you think" Is in the title. 🤷‍♂️ So..... You do have a swing thought. Fight? Er uh Right?

ME AND Mommy are ONE. Is an oldie but goodie for me.
That er uh Old mind stuff.
I much prefer the, "Here Take This" ...well more the Attitude.
The uh, "oh gee let's see", needs to be tempered. That comes after the whole Z er uh E Trinity.
Me Myself and I.
We, yeah we sort the problem First. (Standing at parade rest).
Then we get the Ass Says Mint. And choose which path to take. There's always options.
Development of a style is fine.
Building a solid foundation for a stable shooting platform is My Religious assertion as it's BASIC.
Of course there's always the Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid of the shooting while in a dive/roll. 🤷‍♂️ That's pretty advanced stuff. [Edit] "didn't say I couldn't, just that I prefer." From uh Quigley Down Under, you have seen the movie. Right? 😉

Okay My slight sigh as I, remin niss er uh will miss. As I am told that the APA season is Over. Hugh Who RAY!!
I had fun and last night getting my ass handed to me by a 1 when I was a 7 was still fun.
My disclaimer is, er uh whine is 😉
Nine ball is a luck game. 😉
The upside is she made some good shots, no make that Incredible shots. With huge luck factor running her way. 🤷‍♂️ What can I say. 🤷‍♂️.
Was really happy for her. That always comes with the one of three of Me add den dumb. ""Real F****ing Happy". JUST A JOKE told to self to get the genuine smile at the handshake.
And besides, I got a Hug 🤗

I joined a straight pool league and it definitely helped my game. I started the game to learn how to play safeties and it definitely taught me. Every shot you miss is EXTREMELY PAINFUL since your opponent s going to punish you especially after you did all the work to open up clusters. It’s like every ball is a game winner (or loser). It tests your mental toughness and teaches you to focus on every single shot while exposing all the flaws in your game. Running 2 or 3 rack is so much harder than running a rack in 8/9 ball because the is so little room for error. Give it a try. It will make you a tougher out.

14.1 builds the skills that 8 ball requires. Well shot making is important, avoiding the necessary to shoot hard shots is HUGE. Being able to put the opponent in jail or handcuffs when forced to surrender access to the table is rewarded. Not letting them shoot is the other edge of the sword. Double edged sword is a formidable weapon.
