Energy transfer from cuetip to whiteball

you really cant hit it hard without creating the speed to make it hit hard.

you can use a long or short stroke but to make the cueball travel a certain distance you are going to have to give it the speed.

just like allan hopkins with his short jerky punch stroke, or whatever you call it. he got lots of distance and draw. as good as most. but he had the speed with his punch stroke to create that energy.

in other words if you can say create 25 mph speed in a short stroke or a long one. both will hit just as so called hard.
 
dave please dont destroy so many of the players perception of their equipment. as its their only hope of getting much better is by advancing their equipment rather than their skills.

it ruined many when they found out different weights fall at the same speed. as they saw the feather and ball drop at different speeds.

the current debate is if you can hit the cue ball as hard with less speed as with more speed. bob tried didnt get too far.

A harder tip gives you slightly more CB speed for a given stroke because it has a slightly better hit efficiency.

Also, smoother acceleration over a longer stroke length can give the perception of less effort being applied to create the same cue speed (as compared to a short, punchy stroke).

I'll agree a 'Harder' tip for 'Artistic shots' is better for the 'Extreme' effects of the CB!

IMPO, a 'Med-Med-Soft' tip for more control of the CB in actual Pool/3C play!
 
In baseball a pitcher changes the speed of the pitch by altering the fingers/hand input. In order for the change up pitch to be effective it must have what appears to be the exact same delivery.. A good change up is significantly slower than the fast ball.
A pool player doesn't need to disguise the delivery but it can be deceptive. I have seen diminutive ladies that can really CRACK the rack using what appears to be an effortless stroke. It's all in the timing and delivery. You know just Bitch Slap the cueball. 🤷‍♂️ Hope none are offended.
it's just an expression is my excuse. 😉
 
a hard tip over say a med hard tip or perhaps medium. may give a slightly faster speed to the cue ball, but it certainly is not perceived or really measurable enough to make any difference. and you would adapt to it and never see it.
and the occasional miscue from it may make it a liability for some that are not meticulous at chalking.

only possible speed advantage might be in a break cue,

I like a Hard tip.

Searching for harder since I added more weight to my cue.
I have been using a Korean tip, king black (not black king tip) and it is like a piece of marble. A complete other level past hard pool tips and needs a pure stroke.

Here's 3 examples of the cue/cue tip moving, 'Fast/Short/Quick' but not Hard'!

You cant hit the cue ball fast but soft or slow but hard. A short stroke doesn't mean you hit the ball soft but muscled it. If all strokes are accelerating at impact the cue ball only knows tip speed and location. Show me these different hits while lagging, the distance the cue ball travels will tell the story.

Did 'I' ever use the words, 'Soft or Slow'?

The 'Tempo, Rhythm & Timing' determine what 'Amount of Acceleration' I want to apply, (All accelerations are Not the same) to the CB!

In the 1st video, the CB Only travels about 20 inches, according to Your logic, (the distance the cue ball travels will tell the story), Doesn't hold water!

You never mention the effect on the CB in re; to 'Quantity' of OB contacted!

In All the examples I provided the contact on the OB is about 85-95%!

I'll ask again, "Does it look like I'm hitting the CB hard/force for the effect I'm transferring to the CB"?

Or in these terms, "Do You think I'm hitting the CB hard enough to Breal the balls in 9 ball, successfully"?
 
Ever see someone scoop the cue ball on a soft draw shot? The shooter is squeezing the cue trying to keep the cue speed slow.

NO need to 'Squeeze the Cue' if a player knows the proper techniques!

BTW, in both these examples the '3rd ball' is a little more than a '1 ball width' from the cushion!


 
Meticulous at chalking
Should be at striking the white. The hard tip has a smaller footprint than a soft one. Makes for less traction regardless of chalk. Chalk can contribute but only a small percentage of the miscues occurancis. Hard tips can provide spin it just requires a tighter target zone on the white.
Inaqurate strike usual triggers an equipment whine. My favorite is, "it's a bad rail. BAD RAIL. 😉

The shots in the video appear to have ample speed to break a 9 ball rack.
