Chalk gate at the open !!!!

okay but lets see the skids?

Here is one from the Phoenix open. Massive.

It's frustrating to no longer be the dominant player you once were.

These tournaments see balls and tables- new ones- cleaned after each match. The cumulative effect of chalk buildup isn't there.

Here is a massive skid in the Bergman vs Biado match at the Phoenix Open. New cloth and new balls, and it is early in the match. Perhaps it’s a coincidence but it sure looks like Justin is using Master.

Molina Mike of Window’s Open fame was handing out what I believe was Taom chalk to folks at the Open. I definitely saw him give Mickey Krause a piece. He handed him the box and let him choose his chalk, almost like he was picking a piece of candy out of a box of chocolates.

That brought back a memory from one of the Skins Billiard Championships. Silver Cup Chalk was one of the sponsors who helped make the event happen. At the players meeting, promoter Matt Braun made it very clear: The players were to use Silver Cup chalk at all times. No ifs, ands, or buts. He didn't want to see a piece of another brand sitting on the TV table when Silver Cup was one of the sponsors.

And speaking of chalk, does anyone remember those little pocket chalk holders? Karen Corr always used one that completely covered the outside of the chalk. I remember seeing several players use them back in the day.

The funny thing is that chalk has become almost a fashion accessory in pool now. Some of the pros have their own brands of chalk, Fedor and Alex Pagulayan come to mind.

I honestly think chalks should be regulated in the near future, because if someone rocks up to a big tournament using predator 1080, they're gonna be spraying blue dust all over the table and the balls and causing skids and weird rolls which are just unacceptable at this level of play.
Quite frankly, 4Q chalk snob. Regulated? That’s the most ridiculous assertion I’ve ever heard. Excuses are the camp of the weak minded and skill limited.

If the tournament is going to dictate the type/brand of chalk to use, they should provide it.

I'd be on board with that, although I'm sure some chalk sponsors would squeal. All you have to do is watch Dr. Dave's video. Masters was the only one that left a discernable clumps of chalk on the cue ball. It should be relegated to bar rooms with holes in the cloth, developing countries, and gambling with drunks.

I wouldn't be against some rules limiting which chalk you could use on the WNT tour. We want to see the best players duke it out in the best playing conditions. If some brands of chalk cause more kicks/skids then why not outlaw it. It seems most of the pros are moving away from the traditional chalks and getting annoyed with the pros that haven't both in snooker and pool.

From Mickey's telling of events (which Darren disputes) it does sound like Darren acted like a bit of a dickhead towards him, which I don't think is justified though, whatever you think of the chalk.

And jump sticks should be banned and shot clocks should be on every table.

I think someone should produce a “Get Off My Lawn Open” for the AZ curmudgeons:

No jump cues
Old Gold Crown Tables
Only Master chalk
No Carbon Fibre
Green cloth
Centennial Balls with the traditional colours - Purple 4b
Hand rack for your opponent
One on the spot

What else am I missing?
