Is Might get me Kickoff or Ban from AZBilliards... But I question Bob Jewett Post about value of books????

For anyone who is interested in getting a copy of Shots, Moves, & Strategies for about $200, here you go. I think it's legit, and it has Eddie's embossing in the front.

As one of my college professors used to sadly observe: "we give them books and give them books, but all they do is eat their covers". Back then I thought he was just trying to entertain us, but I now know he was attempting to convey vital truth about human nature.

I wqs feeling particularly flush one year and splurged on Christmas presents for the kids while they were young enough to enjoy it. Success!! They had a grand time that year, playing with the boxes. Made a note, just look for big flashy boxes next year, content not important!

About Bob's pricing. Ida destroyed my pool book collection. I bought a few books from Bob. I forgot why, I sent him a few dollars extra. Maybe shipping he had tossed in or something. In response he shipped an extra book. Hard to get over on Bob!

In all seriousness, I was happy with the deal and it seems Bob was. Deals are fair when both sides are happy. Funny thing, deals are usually fair when both sides are unhappy too!

One of my funnier deals when I had a mechanic shop long ago, I bought a truck cheap. Needed a ring gear on the flywheel and bendex for the starter. Spent a morning and less than fifty dollars in parts to repair it. It ran good but well covered in whiskey dents and maybe missing a tailgate. I offered it for $450 in a major paper. The first day I got two phone calls. Not interested in coming looking, just wanted to know what was wrong with it. I took the hint and raised the price to $650. Holy crap! I couldn't get any work done, probably really forty calls the next day. The first person to come look left a $200 deposit. Two more insisted on coming look in case he didn't buy it!

One man asked if that wasn't the same truck that I had advertised the day before for $450. I told him the truth. "Yes, it was. Nobody wanted a $450 truck. Everybody wanted a $650 truck!"

Another marketing practice I've seen recommended...

You want to sell some $300 cue sticks. Put a fancy cue in the case at $800 and mark the others at $350. When the customer decides 350 is not so high after all and asks for one, give them a $50 discount for being a good customer.

obviously the one he is to give the discount on is a little warped. insist on one of the others.

better yet get the fancy cue so you will be more respected. and might get a date.

lately i have been staining some of my old wood shafts black and for some reason they are selling like hotcakes at county the fair, for 300 dollars a piece.

Like a story about Ira Gershwin who was a guest lecturer or such in a music course at Oxford. "I feel like I'm casting fake pearls before real swine." [ChatGPT says I'm misrembering, but what does it know? ]

See also Matthew 7:6. Or is that 6-7?

Pearls and pigs? I've tried before to deliver this, here. For the larger part it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Or as my Mother often told me "there are none so blind as those who will not see."

Keep up the good word.

To be honest Bob Jewett and I have brought from each other over the years. I have given Bob numerous Hard Time, as RatF@@ker, when He was USBA President. We both know the value as Seller and Buyers of Books . As My Wife work for over twenty five years at a Book Wholesale/Distributors Company . I 've been selling billiards books and items since 1985. I have numerous respects for Bob Jewett, even if we don't agree.

But I'll continuous acting as If I have a catzzz and Tear up English language in Sentence>.

A knick knack store hired a new clerk. The owner showed the new hire four deer statues about a foot tall in the show window. "See if you can sell one of those, they have been here over a year!" The new hire was confident. "I will sell three of them before closing!" They were marked $7.50. He marked one up to $9.95, the other three to $29.95. The one marked $9.95 sold within an hour. He erased the two off of one. It sold just as quickly. Erased another two, not too well. That one sold even faster.

"Now you only have one deer you can't sell and you don't have anything in it!"
