What is up with Earl??

High performance people can seem a bit eccentric at times and I think Earl is an example of that.

His expectations of himself were the sky is the limit and he achieved more than most ever in pool.

Bless his heart it’s not easy getting old and seeing your abilities falter,
Time waits for no man not even Earl!

... There must have been 30 or more pros his same speed in pool history and none acted like him. ...
I've heard that Gene Nagy took a baseball bat to the jukebox. And there was Robert Cannefax who took a pocket knife to the tournament cloth he thought was too old. He also would stab himself in the leg with that knife when he was upset. He had a wooden leg -- I assume he didn't forget which was which.

I think he can be quite different away from the table. You saw the non-pool Earl. At the table, he does not behave like most. I've played him.
He was doing challenge matches when i met him. He signed my old retired cue, took a pic with me, and showed me his cue with its tennis wrap. His cue was taller than me and im 5 10.

I don't believe the drug/mental shit for one second. When his game started to fade he got a REALLY bad chip on his shoulder. He could not deal with the fact that he was no longer top dog. He was in Tulsa yrs ago and off the table he was just another dude, funny friendly chatty. On the table he turns into a TOTAL asswipe. I still love watching vids of 'old' Earl in his prime. That's how i want to remember the guy. Not this bitter ' i used to be' version.
