Can the speed of the cloth help develope new skills?

That was my impression. Shooting on my friend's 760 feels a lot better than the 3030 cloth. I thought the 3030 was too unrealistic for what I would be seeing in our rooms, parlors, and bars. Maybe the 3030 would be a good choice for three cushion or snooker.

Can the speed of the cloth help develope new skills?

My opinion is you might as well go with what the pros shoot on. You are more likely to find 860 on tables in a good tournament than something like 760 or Tour Edition or shag carpeting. Simonis has been in the game long enough without compromising their reputation and it seems to be the...

Can the speed of the cloth help develope new skills?

Either way you have it, definitely equip the table with a good cloth and I would say 860 at a minimum. I tried Championship Tour Edition for about a year and hated it. I might as well have been playing on the slate. A friend of mine has 760 on his table and I don't notice too much of a...

Enough with you nits and nitwits

Personally, I like to stay out of pool halls where there's an aura of danger to my life. I don't know, um, call it . . . common sense? Now, the people deserving of respect for stepping into a dangerous place are the kids laying their lives on the line over in Iraq. Not some yokelheads who by...

    Connelly rail height

1 5-16" is what I got. I don't see the rail height dimension in my 1998 BCA rules book, but it does state the ball must travel back and forth at least 4 or 4 1/2 times without jumping. I can get 4 times without jumping, but the ball does appear to want to leap if I hit it any harder. Maybe...

    Connelly rail height

I think I have the K66 cushions on my 9 foot Connelly that is two years old. My experiences with Connelly (and Cal Spas) has been poor. If I had to do it all over again, I would not look into buying a Connelly (although I did win my table in a contest, but I sometimes wonder if I should have...

    Warm-up stroke routine, cueing low

Thanks for the explanation and your time. Any future plans of coming through Colorado for instruction?

    Warm-up stroke routine, cueing low

Seems reasonable. I tinker around with it occasionally, but have not noticed any reasonable advantage to it. Sidenote, no issues here focusing on the object ball in the final stroke. I was at a tournament yesterday, watching one fellow -- good shooter -- perform this function. He's not one to...

    Warm-up stroke routine, cueing low

I think that makes sense to me now. Thanks.

    Warm-up stroke routine, cueing low

So what's the purpose of it? I see some pros warm-up stroke with the cue tip aimed low, pretty much on the cloth, and then raise their tip on the follow-through stroke for where they plan on hitting the cue. For me, I have to line up the tip for where I want to hit the cue ball on my practice...

Allison is in the 9 ball at the DCC. Predictions?

So based on that list is Sarah the highest-placing female that anyone can recall at an event like this? I see that Allison, Karen, Helena, and Tina Larsen all won their first two matches.

    Top 10 US 1P players

I know that Dave Gross and Mark Haddad are pretty good 1P players out here in Colorado. Don't know how they compare to the top 10, but I think they have both placed high in tournaments before.

    free tAR vs PPV tAR

$10 isn't too bad of a fee and it's nice to see some live coverage that we wouldn't normally have. I would be curious how many of those watching the free stuff actually stayed on a considerable amount of time to justify paying for the service. I personally don't have the time to watch too much...

    2 APA Questions

I overlooked the "tournament" part of the question and figured it was league play. I would say I have to agree with Jude's statement now. Definite loss of game regardless of whose rules are being used. If it were just the 5-ball that was moved, then I could see maybe respotting it only after...

    Strongest APA regions

I believe breaking down the cue during a match is no longer considered a foul. In the old days, it was a sportsmanship infraction or foul as the previous poster noted.

    2 APA Questions

Having just recently "reffed" for our LO in a playoff finals match, I had plenty of screwy things happen during the night so I feel well-prepared to answer the 9-ball question (as the 8-ball question has been answered correctly). If the shooter shot the CB into the 5 to break up the combination...

    Strongest APA regions

I don't think you can reasonably compare regions when it comes down to how strict or lax the league operator is. Sure, they all follow the Equalizer system, but LO's are allowed their own by-laws and judgment calls on how players are ranked. I know that our Colorado teams usually don't fair...

Alternate breaks, winner breaks, or loser breaks?

I know that if it's an alternate break format and I'm playing a better player that I feel I have a better chance to win. That being said, I don't think that is right and I prefer winner breaks. If I get clobbered, so be it. For short races in a local tournament, up to 5 games, then alternate...
