HOW much is ur cue ?

The inlay pattern in the points and center of the wrap are copied from a Mottey. Hope I helped you understand. My point was no one cares or maybe no one knows. Just a little heads up.

Brand New Diamondwood Break Cue For Sale !

I can't remember using dymonwood in a cue before. Maybe it was "Wildwood" you were thinking of? That's some pretty stuff, although it needs cored in my opinion to be of any use for a forearm. Jim

    mottey's shop

John is not in the Mottey shop anymore and hasn't been for a couple of years. He is making cues on his own. I have not personally seen any cues that John has made since he left but I know he is capable of doing quality work. He sometimes stops in our poolroom (Breakers') but I haven't seen...

Looking for Black on Black inspiration.

such cynicism! Actually, that would be relatively easy to do but, since it hasn't attained "classic" status, I would guess that'd be an obvious rip-off) :) I'm sure you already knew that. It is a nice cue though (like most of them).

    Shoulder Screws in Today's Cues

Screw it? Michael, I must agree! I do NOT like pins that are not threaded all the way. I don't have any problems getting fully threaded pins in straight...in fact it's EASIER. Shouldered screws also are a pain to use in that I have to change the way I normally assemble the joint. I still...

Anyone else with a 1 of a kind design?

Intricacy, I agree, does not necessarily mean attractive. Some of JMcW's stuff is real nice, well executed and not overly intricate and original. Others may jam a bunch of inlays in a cue and charge a premium because of it. The cue may have zero design continuity and flow, but it sells anyway...

Anyone else with a 1 of a kind design?

Jeff, Originality of design is only one aspect of a piece of art. The execution of design is an additional consideration. How to make a sculpture from a photograph or painting is not an easy task. There are only so many shapes that can be effectively used in a cue's design and the way they...

Anyone else with a 1 of a kind design?

Purdman, I asked him that very question in person at last year's collector's show. He informed me that he did not say that and he was not happy about being misquoted. He does do some incredible stuff! Jim W.

What's the best spot (stickers, marker, etc)

We use the lick and stick Masters spots on the hard break tables (9 ball tourn, league play, etc) and the peel and stick spots that come on the card for the other tables. The peel and stick don't seem as thick and don't throw the slow-rolled balls off as much (one hole players are always...

    New Mottey to show

Si, Recut points are also v-groove points. The difference is the "veneers" on the recut are milled from a solid piece of wood as opposed to traditional veneers which are mitred (a vertical seam). Recuts are done by cutting the point, gluing in a piece of wood, moving the cutter away slightly...

    paul mottey signature question

Brett, Thanks for the positive feedback, it is great to hear from people who appreciate what you do! Currently, a simpler cue can be had in about 6-8 mos., a loaded up cue might take a year. If you are interested, give me some idea of what you want and we can go from there. Someone said...

    paul mottey signature question

Just out of curiosity....what do you guys prefer? The "engraving" on the butt cap, or the signature and date on the forearm. Some say the signture detracts from the cue's looks, others say the engraving makes the cue look "production". What are your thoughts? Jim
