Ralph "The Kaiser" Souquet Charlie "The Korean Dragon" Williams Nick "The Kentucky Colonal" Varner "Bustin" Justin Hall (I just made that one up...sorry, Justin).

I'm sick of these sayings. If I hear them just once more.....

"He moves like a GHOST". Having never seen a ghost move, I would replace with "He moves like a gopher". For those of you who have engaged in "Caddyshack" gopher wars, you'll appreciate the accuracy of this phrase. "I busted him and gave him a WALKING STICK, then I gave the guy who steered me...

The most important contribution to pool in 10 years.

Agree 100%. I would put the Derby City Classic as runner-up, with Greg Sullivan as the most important person in the pool world during the past 10 years IMHO (DCC and Diamond tables are his babies). Ga Yung Kim deserves honorable mention, just because.

    The best ever?

Agree 100%. In addition, Efren plays a lot better bank pool than a lot of people realize (I lost a C-note betting on Shannon Dauton vs Efreen in a 2001 DCC bank pool set - Efren looked like the best banker on the planet). He also plays a mean game of 3C billiards. For overall skill, heart...

    Three American Champs

Congrats to all the winners. Not only are they all Americans, they are all classy guys who bring credit to the game, on and off the table.

    TAR 12 step program?

Great post, Gerry. Tonight it's back to normal, sweating or playing $20 sets at the local foolroom, hoping the beer's cold and the headbangers and/or rappers don't capture the jukebox. What a 1 - 2 punch: the DCC is over, and NFL is over after today. We pool/football fans are looking at a long...

    Thanks TAR

Dittos. The TAR crew, and volunteers like Beav, Fred and Sarah, did a great job for the entire tournement. The feed was consistenly good and the action was terrific. TAR is the best thing that's happened to pool in a long time.

    Unknown "monster" players

Great thread. I had the pleasure of talking to Vernon Elliott at the last DCC. One of his stories: He's on the road with a player he just met, Vernon's driving and says: "I'm going to take a shortcut". The guy says: "Do we have time?". Lotsapapa was one of the best pure hustlers I ever saw and...

Living in the past ain't so bad!!!

Hi. Only went to Stockton once with a few buddies to check out the pool action. We stopped in a bar there, got tangled up with some primo Fat City girls, their boxer boyfriends came in, took the heat, and a brawl broke out. The cops told us to leave and not come back, and we didn't. Wow...

Living in the past ain't so bad!!!

Great thread, SJD. I never met you, but you were the stuff of legend and I heard so many stories about you that I felt I knew you. I hung out at Duke's in San Jose in the early 70's, going up to Cochran's and the Palace on the weekends to get wamboozled. Some of the characters I remember are...

    New direction for the players

As an avid follower of sports and pool for the past 45 years, I would offer the following: Serious transgressions of "sports legends": murder, rape (forcible and statutory), financing and presenting dogfights, point shaving, vehicular DWI manslaughter, armed robbery, drug trafficking...

    Say Farewell to "Danny Boy"

I'll second that motion. Shannon and Danny in a 9ball/1p/bank challenge would be terrific and should be a really close match.

    Fat's One Liners

Fats, talking about the late Bill "Weenie Beanie" Staton: "They say this Weenie Beanie has a lot of dough. Tell ya what, after I beat him outa all his cash and his hot dogs, they're gonna call him Teenie Greenie".

Decent everyday home use Cue under $100?

I can't speak for any of the cues you listed except for the Player. I would recommend the Player 100%. I bought mine from ozone billiards and got free shipping and a great price. Just enter player pool cue on your search engine, and you'll get a ton of choices where to buy it. I bought the...

What Tournament that no longer exists do you miss???????

Although I miss the old Jansco brothers Stardust tournaments from the late 60's, early 70's, the Derby City Classic is even better. When you consider all the qualities of a great pool tournament: top players, affordability, great equipment, topnotch tournament director, plenty of 24/7 side...

Great point. I am a member of several forums and AZB gives them all the wild 8. BTW, love your signature, PROG. Go Gators and Go Heisman Winner (if there is any justice) Tim Tebow!

    winning 1 pocket

I humbly disagree. The kiss/bank shot that AZE diagrammed is not really difficult or risky (provided the shooter can draw the cueball back as shown, otherwise leaving a bank is a risk). The score and table layout make this a perfect situation for the kiss/bank shot and I think if you polled all...
