What happened to John Barton?

I never see any post or comments from him

Here was a great guy, very experienced in all things pool.

A sponsor of pool tournaments and money mathes ,He made the greatest cases at the best prices ever.

He befriended every case maker on Az and complimeented every one of them on Az

Couple the fact that he loved the action side of things as well.
he played any body and everybody with a little gamble.

Sure his playing was no where near top speed,he played a ball or so above me,but he would bet high and ask for a rematch.

By all of this you would expect him to be well received and loved by everyone

But know nothing kibitzers insisted on knocking him, goading him on with remarks too stupid to deserve a reply. Losers felt like winners with stupid critical remarks until we ran him off.

And John wasn't the only guy we ran off,Tikkler used to show us beautiful collectible cues, Az probably has less than one tenth of the fine posters we used to have,
Is this just the nature of forums or just pool

John Barton if you read this ,please come back.

Really?

i never was a member of any other forum, but it is hard to believe less civility

This forum is by far the most toxic compared to other hobbiest places.

Other forums I've been a part of will do things like product pass-arounds--and I'm talking $500+ items that are treated with care and respect. Could not even imagine doing that here, too many shady people it seems. There typically seems to be a general camaraderie between members on other forums (which you think we would have in spades considering how small the pool community is), but not seen here.

I don't think anyone has a problem with John's cases or customer service that i know of
personally people like him
they love his cases
I know I do

I think it has something to do with giving some people in china a job
because the labor is expensive over here

why don't we start by you guys just telling us about yoursel

where do you work>
?any children

have any of you guys made pool stuff or
won any tournaments
are are you league players or gamblers

is it possible for you fellas to tell us about yourself,it's fun to meet new peole

let's make a deal,i won't talk nicely about john barton and you quit talking critically
lets talk about ourselves rather than hide like those cowards we heard about
I like this idea. Graduated HS early and been in a construction union ever since. I basically stopped playing pool years ago, now just bang balls around here and there. Got a diamond at home and it’s a laundry table and photo background more than what it’s designed for. Not much time being a single dad to a 6 year old son. Been around long enough to know the only sure way to double your money is to fold it in half. Stopped counting cues at 500 and nowadays only buy and sell them for friends, just for the fun of it. There’s no money to be made anymore, none worth writing home about at least. The mass amounts of guys putting cues together and the shift in collectors has dropped the market value on everything. Anyone who thinks different is lying to themselves or trying to sell something. As for John, I’ll stake his cases against any living humans when it comes to quality...long as you throw both off a bridge into a river then drag it behind a car for a few miles down a gravel road.

$H ~ Also knows nothing about sports other than MMA, spends most of the time in the gym or jiu jitsu, been places, seen things, met some crazy cool people and forgot more than most will know and still ain’t hit 40 yet🤙🏼

Hahaha good lord no, stopped counting at 500 as they come and go. I only have a couple left that I won’t sell, theyre not worth a lot but hold a personal value beyond they’re actual value.

Guessing lucky number 9

What happened to john barton is the same thing that happened to some other cowards. They went to places like their own private blogs and facebook where they could block all negative replies to their bullshit.

They weren't ran off, they ran and hid. In john barton's case he was a coddled and protected poster here and still couldn't handle the crap that he stirred up himself.

Hu

Now that isn't really fair. Not without a degree of truth, bit I can't really join that sentiment.

A man has to know what battles deserve his sweat and pool is silly, much let talking about it

I also think Mr howerton told him he was gonna get thrown off the ship for good, if he didn't cool it. That would undoubtedly be a big factor in decreased forum participation.

Don't be daft. I wasn't coddled in any way. You were however allowed to get away with insults and breaking the rules when going after me.

The reason I don't participate as much here is people like you.

Strongly disagree.

I participate in another forum comprised of people associated, more so, to the same avocation as opposed to the same hobby. By that, I mean we compete for rank and money in our avocation. The forum being much like AZB, in that, it has members from all over the world. It also has several different rule sets, including a very popular professional organization.

They behave exactly like AZB. A few try to dominate opinion. Moderators mostly allow bullies to be bullies and sans any personal attack or excessive profanity, forum discussion continues.

I lurk on many forums, because I have many hobbies. Every hobby has a gap between those trying to learn and those who have experience and expertise. It is almost always those with varying degrees of experience (not expertise) that ruin it for those trying to learn.

Toxic??? Shady pool players???

Say it ain't so.

IMHO, John Barton makes as fine a case as there is to be had, especially the interiors. What aggravated me about him ws whenever he got into a long, drawn-out debate with someone it would go on forever....because John ALWAYS had to have the last word/post in the thread. He just didn't know when to "shut it down", take his ball and go home.

Other than that I have no problem with John.

BB, I don't know if Mike finally told him he was looking at a permanent ban. I do know that for at least several years john was the only person that Dave couldn't ban without permission unlike any other of the thousands of people on this forum unless there were other special pets I didn't know of. Certainly seemed like a few sweat shop cases bought a hell of a lot of good will around here although I do know that john had some temporary bans while handing AZB cases. Again, not an actual count but I think john is by far the person with the most temporary bans that hasn't gotten the lifetime ban. Some good people got lifetime bans for a lot less as I think anyone that has been around here for long knows.

There is no disputing that he used forums where he could block my replies to attack me including one he created himself. I don't actually give a rat's ass about john these days, I just wasn't willing to let Dean try to nominate john for sainthood while indirectly attacking me without speaking my piece.

Dean, I'll give a brief sketch when I feel like it. It won't be too detailed because if some of the less stable on the forum get inclined to stalk me I want it to require some effort. When I have had several idiots less than fifty miles away wanting to stalk me I can't make it too easy.

john, if I have anything to do with you being gone, it is good to know I served some good in the world and on this forum. Of course what you are saying is more than a little dishonest since I was busy in other areas than pool when you left and wasn't posting here myself.

I don’t think a pool forum should be compared to a forum that deals in hobbies.
....a pool player has more in common with an athlete...we are just as competitive.
We have more in common with a boxer than one who flies model airplanes ..or drones.

Quite a few of us have resolved differences of opinion in real life by saying....
..”Yeah?...What do you wanna do, and for how much?”

So, all and all, I think the majority on AZ handle themselves well...and many favors get
done behind the scene.

But I find some seemingly reasonable posters are guilty of using biased reasoning...
..if one person in 20 gets nasty, they like to paint the whole forum with the same brush.
Being a redneck, I call it redneck reasoning...”ah, you’re all alike.”

other forums

It all depends on the people running the forums as you know. Car forums tend to get very rank if not closely moderated. My favorite chainsaw forum with great information wasn't a place I would like my mother or child to read over my shoulder either! They would definitely have learned a few things that aren't taught in Sunday school.

Dave may very well be the only reason AZB is here today. It was big enough for awhile that it took a lot of moderation. Dave must have put in at least the same hours as a full time job, without any compensation to the best of my knowledge. In the years AZB was hopping I wouldn't have moderated it for IT wages, much less free.

Yeah, moderation is important....and difficult.
I miss David for his posts as much as his policing.
...and the policing was important....I used to read the BD forum a lot...
...but was never tempted to join it...now THAT was the Wild West.

But moderation, by definition, should be moderate...a fine line.

he always told the truth he sold me many cases and once he made a mistake and insisted ohn giving me a free case

another time he was late in getting my cases to me so he gave me a free case

then he played pool and gave me a spot and lost money but never complained

instead he took my wife and me out to breakfast and insisted on paying

<snip>

Dean,
I'm not being argumentative and will never engage in forum flame wars, HOWEVER, 2 distinct takeaways from your post:

1. JB was good because he gave you free stuff. (to paraphrase)

I hope that's not the standard for being a good person, but it might explain the rise of Socialists in America.

RE: Other case makers, he was nice to which one? That was singular...

EDIT

2. NO, let's NOT change the subject of this thread by having responders tell you about their lives.

This thread is about the single largest cancer this site has ever known, the most toxic batshit crazy member we've ever endured - John Barton.

FYI, my opinions are mine alone. Never had a business deal with John. Never will. My opinions were formed by watching JB on this site, and talking to countless people in the industry.

The difference is pool has a culture of gambling. Introduce money into the mix and things happen. I don't think the Toy Train enthusiasts gamble over who's caboose is shinier. I could be wrong.
