Different style of cue, what do you think?

Ive never been a fan of classic styled cues with points and such, always seemed a little boring. I fell in love with this guys cues years ago but could never justify the price, then decided justification is overrated. the brown one has a stag bottom end, stag inlays, stag joint with phenolic threading and even a stag ferrule. Bob Thompson is the maker, dosent make cues anymore went into guitar making, but i found these two beauties, im sure a lot of people wont be a fan of the unusual styling but boy do they turn heads, because from across a poolhall you can tell it wasnt bought at Big 5:cool:

There was someone on AZB a while ago that was making cues very similar to these, could have been the same guy. I liked his designs, he got a lot of intrest in his cues but have not seen them around lately.

I love it, I just wish more cuemakers were this adventurous. I guess I can understand why they aren't... boring old points and rings sell easily, while this one may not. But guys like you are the reason they're willing to keep trying new things. Nice cue.

This pool cue has been one of our better selling models for almost a decade -

Might have been a guy I know.. Mitch Thomas ..

He really made some "far out" cues and was always trying new things. He moved from SoCal a few years back but I have seen him or a friend of his on here with some pics of his stuff.

Those remind me of a style of cute made by a guy I knew from yucaipa Cali, but he was a cabinet maker by trade.

If you like them...great.
Not for me though.
I like four points or no points.
More than four is too much fluff.......for me.
Really like a cue that's simple and just made from beautiful woods.

It's hard to execute a look like that. Chuck starkey is pretty adventurous with this type of construction too.

I personally love to see something new like this. I really dig the green curly maple! it sets it off really well. I can't seem to grasp a sense of proportion or balance to this design though...

I personally think with these ones he was just going for eye catching and unusual , whether you like it or not, it catches your eye and will probably keep it for awhile. He also does do some classic looking wrapped cues with gorgeous exotic woods and points. the green one is gorgeous, but its a little too loud for even me, im giving that one to my cousin, keeping the brown one little more subtle an classy than the green IMHO

Those cues are definately eye catching. I like points, especially in Titlist colors (maybe a little bolder) with nice grained dark woods or even ebony. Our local cue builder has an ebony cue with dark green veneers that really looks nice. I think its the color/wood combinations that that I look for more than the shapes.

You are thinking of Marshall Piercy...he disappeared (last post was in 2010) but oddly enough he or someone logged on his account 5/23 of this year.

Marshall had the idea on constructing cues in a new way that looked like these do when they got put together.

Beautiful workmanship and design. If they were mine I'd have an exotic leather put on. They are head turners. Enjoy.
