1) your mechanics are the most important thing you can ever put time into. Everything, everything, everything improves as your fundamentals improve simply because you'll be delivering your cue more accurately and more efficiently. It doesn't matter if you know where to aim if you can't knock your cue ball to that point.

2) proper state of mind. Stop thinking about high runs, personal records etc. during matches. Just play the match and focus on doing what you need to do to win. Putting too much stock in high runs is what causes us to take on the 20% shot in hopes that it will keep you at the table.

Similarily, instead of worrying about running racks, when your turn comes around simply see it as your opportunity to win. It sounds the same, but it's not. It's a better goal and your less likely to shark yourself out of a run out because your amped about running for the whateverith time in a row.

After making a tough shot to get back in line, regroup. Take a glass of water, try to mentally start your run over. Just focus on the next shot and running out the last balls of your run. Think about it this way, perhaps you've run 4 balls in 9 ball, and made a tough shot to get in line on the 7 (or whatever). If this shot on the 7 was your first shot, surely you'd run out almost 100% of the time, so try to think of it like that. The previous balls no longer matter, they are done and gone.

3) Realize there are no secrets, no magic bullets. Just tips and tricks, techniques and systems that help you understand various concepts. None of them will put together a great player without thousands of hours of hard work and dedication.

Throw your pool cue away and get some golf clubs, if you are going to spend all your free time playing a game , at least play one you have a chance of making money at.

Seriously, being born with great hand eye coordination is the secret to playing great pool. There are at least a thousand other secrets that can help your game, but they'll get you nowhere without this one.

8 ball- dont try running out unless u can.
9 ball- stop trying to impress people by hitting the cb as hard as you can, just to make a loud noise on your break and losing your cb.Your chances of putting things together are slim and none, and slim just left.
1pocket -if you play it like your playing 9ball,leave most of your money at home.;)

Knowledge is the secret.
If you do not know how to shoot a shot you need to learn it, until you own it.
Learn Your mechanics that serve your style of play.
Learn how the balls react to each other at a given speed and spin.
Learn how speed and spin changes off the rails.
Learn to sight the shot.
Learn that you will never know it all.

Oh yea, and someone always thinks they have a better way!!
