10,000 Ball Marathon for The United Way

LOL... sorry, no ball return on either table. Shirley has the unenviable task of having to get the balls out of the pockets and then rack all 667 racks. Her job is much more complicated than mine.

Well I'm glad you added that ONE extra rack to ensure you weren't attracting the Evil Eye ;-)

Seriously though, you should have given us more notice so we could drum up a decent amount of sponsorship here. I'd have been happy to knock up a quick promotional website. Do you have an online payment system setup for this, or do the United Way have this already? Ideally I'd send you the money via Paypal, but either way put me down for 2 racks please.

Best of luck with the event! Remember that a journey of a million steps begins with a single one - To open the door of the car. :-)

I appreciate everybody' support. I too have been waiting for information on a link to send in online donations for this cause, and it has been very frustrating. If I hear nothing by this evening, I will set up something similar to what I did for the last marathon that I did at Capone's.

Dwight, if you are able to get that information for me today from The United Way (or Jessica) , please give me a call so I can post it here and at my website.

I also need the information for the livestream.

I'll be making a donation, Blackjack, and I'm going to sweat few racks as well. You're definitely easy on the eyes.

And it will be GREAT to see a person with as much passion as you helping others. This is a win-win for everybody involved.

You are truly an asset to this sport. I wish you all the very best!

I have a notice on the front page of AZ concerning all the info for the week end. There is a direct link to United Way. I am working with the webmaster to have a counting system for the donations. We need to know the count for the racks. It has taken some time to work out. Sorry for the delay.

When you guys get to the stream, I will put up a live link in the chat for donations. in the meanwhile, Please use this link. Thank you for your support.

I saw the link for the United Way.

Is there any way we can donate and make sure the United Way knows that the donation is made as support of this pool exhibition?

I was at the United Way office today to see why the pay today link was down. It seems that they are building in a link to show us what is going on, please be patient as they haven't had this type of event in the past. I am on top of this and will let you all know when it is up and running.

Thanks to all the supporters,

Dwight

On September 18 and 19, I will be pocketing 10,000 balls to raise money for The United Way of The Big Bend - http://www.uwbb.org/ at Pockets in Tallahassee, Florida. This event will be held during the US Open Qualifier that same weekend, and you can follow my progress - ball by ball - on the livestream.

I will be pocketing balls speedpool style for 12 hours each day. You can sponsor my efforts for $15 per rack. Our goal is to raise $10,000 - a dollar for each ball I am pocketing.

I will be rotating between using a McDermott D21, D-4, and my Doug Patrick SP. I am in need of a 3/8 10 shaft as this will probably be the last hurrah for my Z shaft. If anyone can assist me with that, let me know - in exchange, I will place a banner ad for the entire event during the live stream, or we'll name our new puppy after you - whichever you prefer.

Dwight Sisson (BigDogAtLarge) will be posting a link where monetary donations can be made on line. If you would prefer to make a donation by check, you can do so by following the instructions at the United Way of The Big Bend website.

I have been training every day for this event, and I am averaging 32 racks an hour. I plan on reaching the 10,000 ball mark sometime on Saturday afternoon, and then setting my sights on 11,000 by 11 PM that evening.

I am in the process of talking Tommy Kennedy into coming out on Friday to do a an exhibition with ball juggling and trick shots. Tommy is one of the most popular US Open Champions in history, and he has an extremely entertaining show - and TK and I will go mano y midget with the ball juggling - the challenge has been made.

We recently conducted an interview for FSU-TV - when I get that footage, I will post it in this thread. Here is some video of me preparing for this event -

Fast Shooting/Ball Juggling

This is being done in an effort to raise money for the youth programs and to promote a positive image for the game. A lot of hard work has gone into this event by Dwight and his entire staff - as well as the entire staff at Pockets.

Our goal is to create a close working relationship with The United Way to promote fundraisers all over the country. If you are interested in promoting one of these fundraisers in your area, please contact me or Dwight.

The US Open qualifier starts on Saturday and we expect a full field of great players fighting it out for a ticket to Chesapeake.

That's all I got - I'm just the guy pocketing the balls - so if you have any inquiries, please direct your questions to BigDogAtLarge - he's the guy in charge.

Thanks!

Hoping for a great event for you

The donation link at ww.uwbb.org is back up and running as of this evening. I arrived in Tallahassee this afternoon and was able to warm up for a while on the two tables that I will be using for the next few days.

I will start the 10,000 ball marathon at noon tomorrow (Friday) - it will be livestreamed at http://ontherailtv.com/ontherailtv/wednesday

If I am wrong about that link, somebody please post the correct information.

Going to bed to get some rest , and I will be ready to go at the balls at lightning speed tomorrow.

I would like to thank everybody for their support - especially CCN7 (Floyd) and Tommy Kennedy.

really hate I will miss this

Talked with Big Dog about maybe helping out but have had a gout flair
up and low on funds .Hope I can drop in another time ,I really admire and
like to see people do things like this for others . :thumbup2:

Matt I hope you are feeling much better. We can meet another time, just get well, we need all our streamers up and running... lol

so to speak

Thanks Matt! I hope you get some rest and get to feeling better!

I just got finished prepping my cues - getting ready to head out to Pockets in a little while to start the run at NOON.

I am rotating between 3 cues today -

McDermott D-21 w/ a Crown Cues shaft (courtesy of CCN7)
McDermott D-4 w/ a Predator Z shaft
Patrick Cues Sneaky Pete (courtesy of Remy - Tony Valles)

I feel very good today, well rested and very confident. I will be clearing the balls off the table at a pace of 1:30 per rack - I may even provide updates of my progress if I get a chance - or you can tune in to watch it on the live stream.

Above all else, please support The United Way. A lot of work has gone into developing a working relationship with The United Way of The Big Bend, and I am planning on expanding this relationship to do fundraisers in other communities. This is a fantastic opportunity to show the world what pool players and our industry are all about!

If you would like to support this event, visit http://www.uwbb.org and click on give 2 day - and follow the instructions. Every penny that is raised goes directly to The United Way and 100% of all contributions goes to support the various organizations that are part of The United Way.

Thanks to everybody that has supported this effort - now its time for me to go hit some balls!

bump for a good cause !
