if you haven't seen this yet check it out:

http://youtu.be/ZvQSmvfbHW

start the video at 1:08. he runs a 43, misses a combo then a 117.
I noticed in the second rack of the first run immediatly after he gets the balls spread out he picks out a rather unusual break shot. given the same position I am sure I would have tried to bump something out or go down trying.
real good player here.

I don't think the first link works, try this one.

"World record" is a little misleading but I believe Pettman's run is the highest ever run on a 5 X 10 table to be documented on video.

The highest run on a 5x10 in a world 14.1 championship was by Joe Procita. He ran 182 against Willie Mosconi. "On video" is irrelevant.

The highest on a 5x10 in scheduled exhibition was at least 309 (Crane and Mosconi) and may have been higher in that Mosconi had two other runs over 300 in exhibitions in 1953 or so but I don't see a record of the size of the table for either of those runs.

I agree, Bob. This whole "world record" nonsense (started by Max Eberle) is very misleading, and completely irrelevant. I think it's an example of Pac-Man marketing -- i.e. eat-up whatever recognition that can be gained through a "loop hole," such as the non-existence of video proof otherwise. Wocka-wocka-wocka-wocka-wocka-wocka...

I do think Crane and Mosconi still hold the "world record" for the highest run on a 10 x 5. Video proof or not.

Pac-Man marketing aside, there is a good thing that's a fallout of this, and that's attention to straight pool on a 10 x 5. Can't be all bad when you think about it.

It's ok Sean - yes Max is a champion and your a puppet, very difficult to try and market yourself AND be a pro at the same time. Why is it that you have such negative feedback towards anyone who actually is a professional pool player? If you played Max straight up for the cash your knees would be knockin' sounds of wocka-wocka-wocka.

And I see this one is from the juvenile demographic -- welcome aboard, tiger cub! Your welcome kit and certificate for membership in the Happy Meal club will arrive in the mail shortly.

Hey Danny: Good to hear from you. Thanks for hanging around our straight pool room, even when you were not playing in the event. It was cool watching you and Max practice together and eavesdrop on you guys talking about your patterns. I know a lot of the spectators appreciated your accessibility also. And I can't wait to hear the commentary you guys added to some of the stream. I hope they recorded it so we can give it a listen. See you next year.

That table was treacherous. That 117 was an amazing feat.

The usual suspects, that can post over 200-balls on 9' diamonds, couldn't get more than 1/2 way to the first century.

Seeing Archer, Harriman, Hohmann, etc...posting 20's, 30's, & 40's...which led to some timid shot-making was an eye-opener.

Stuart deserves MOUNDS of respect for that run.

BTW, why didn't Stuart shoot that 15-ball in the side & go up/down the table or hold for the 3-ball? He tried to spear it in the end pocket, which had to look like a thimble!

Negative feedback? He posted the truth, and he did so in a friendly enough manner. Quit being such a sad hater. Before you reply, know that I love you.

And now I eagerly await your next witty response.

Congrats to Stuart Pettman! What an incredible run! I can't believe it ended the way it did. I look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

I've got his hondo on video and will upload it once I locate it. Between my camera and Dana's camera, I have 327 gb, though some of it is 10 ball.

Well it's seems some enjoy livingin the past.

Just sayin' the impression I get from some is their need to cling to the past players (almost as if nothing can compare). I understand that if I were to catch a 600 ball run on tape and try and promote it, Sean and his click of traditionalsts would find some way of demeaning the video in one way or another. I just think if someone runs 99 balls on a video and allows the public to view this footage that people like Sean would do better for themselves to just say nice run. Rather than the mindless banter about pac-man marketing and trying to sound intelligent when deep down guys like Sean are a bit jealous of a pro's ability - otherwise he would not need to make the comparison of todays talent vs yesterdays "". But like you say Sean Maybe you and your group of nerdy' traditionalists are not all bad when you think about it. If a pro player (who's already well established in the billiard community) wants to claim a 99 ball run as a record for him on the ten footer then so be it. Once again Sean - for the cash your knees would chatter wocka-wocka-away from this game cause it's too tough against Max or myself. Put that in your computer chip and take a gigobyte.

Sorry Eric, it looks like "I" am higher up on the stalking ladder for Danny than you are. Not only is he not going to reply to you, but he responded to a single post of mine TWICE! (See his post #16 above.)

All funnin' aside, it's pretty sad that he just doesn't get my point, and instead uses my post as a platform for his obsessive-compulsive rants.

In case you're reading this, Danny (and I know you are, because I am, after all, your number one target, and you are, after all, in my bewuvved fan cwub ;) ), know the following things:

1. It wasn't just me that made mention of the false marketing that Max used. In fact, I wasn't the first, either. But nevermind anyone else; woe is me (in your eyes) if *I* -- your favorite stalking target -- make mention of it, right?

2. Words cannot describe how much respect I have for Max's level of play. And, Max is an excellent instructor as well. Noone said that I don't envy Max's level of play and devotion to our sport.

3. Here you go again with the "threats" about what your/Max's level of play "would do to me" -- a working man who has a full-time well-paying career, house, fiancee, financial responsibility, many hobbies besides pool that I do well in (including a former professional musician), etc., and only is able to play pool once or twice a week. What kind of comparison is that? Ooo, should I be shivering in my boots? Not hardly, numbnuts. I know I'm not a professional player. And -- newsflash -- there's more to measuring life and happiness than your ability to sink balls or execute high runs in 14.1. One of the aspects of living a fulfilling life, is knowing your place in it, and taking advantage of the opportunities that place in life offers you. I'll leave that for you to stew on, while you think about where you are in your present life, and what effects your past -- and your current attitude -- has on you. I won't say any more on that topic. You know what I'm getting at.

So you go ahead and continue to target those individuals who represent everything in life that YOU'LL NEVER ACHIEVE. You go ahead and learn how fruitless an endeavor that is (can you say "tilting at windmills"?), while your situation never resolves or improves.

Stew on that, burger-flipper.

Wrong again computer wimp, i understand your point about Max and your theory about his claim for the world title 99 ball run. Your wrong about making judjments about what I will achieve and won't achieve in life. Your just another person that has a computer at his desk, it's always nice to hear when a forum poster like you talks about his career and life in general as an excuse for being a reader/critic rather than a player. Ohh the players on here understand that you think that if we are great players than we probably don't have a life. My only question is if you have respect for Max's ability then why would you choose to belittle his 99 ball run, as it may have been a record on camera before Stuart ran the 117. If your a musician and a straight pool player than maybe I should give u your props. Congrats Sean on your accomplishments, some friendly advice is - don't belittle anothers accomplishments (even if You don't think there politically correct). Then you will not have to talk about how much $ you mke and or how succesfull you are unless that was the plan from the get go. I am glad to hear that you like Max's game sorry that u did not feel his record was legit. I guess if I need a rule clarification i will ask you or Bob Jewett, personally I would rather be talented than an intellectual idiot.

Tilt on, "Dan" Quixote. (Afterall, your woes are my fault. And Samm Diep's fault. And Barry Behrman's fault. And David Sapolis' fault. And Mike Grosso's fault. And poolmouse's fault. And easy-e's fault. And John Schmidt's fault. And Justin Colllett's fault. And Bill Maropolis' fault. And the State of Missouri's fault. And... ad infinitum.)

Done with this crap, Danny. Continue rambling on, if you like.

(Apologies to the rest of the readership.)

accepted. just in time too, I was just going to put up a Sean Vs. Danny thread.:)

not really, but to get back on topic youtube sent this to my email or I would have never seen it, I must have signed up to something, I guess.
I really don't know anything about Mr P. this was the first time I saw him play, I thought he played at a real nice pace that was easy to watch, and enjoyed some unusual break shots in the beginning of the run. somebody once told me it's an easy game when you know when you are going to make the shots, and that's the way this run looked to me.

steven
and I know there is lots more to the game than just knowing you are going to make the shots.
