14.1 at Valley Forge

Fair

I'd judge that opening break as fair. Darren leaves the CB near the rail, but he leaves an open ball for John to shoot at. The opening break and how good it turns out has a lot to do with the equipment (balls, cushions and cloth).

If I remember correctly the TV table during the 2000 Open played extremely favorable to the shooter and opening breaks leaving the CB near the rail and no open shot were common. One of the commentators on one of the DVD's (Varner maybe) said the table was breaking so well that he'd have no problem taking 3 scratches and re-breaking because it was easy to play a really good safe off the break.

ok, i turned on the sound for a bit and nothing has changed with the commentary. then schmidt misses a gimmie 2ball in the corner pocket which was HUGE after getting the rack back on a scratch by appleton that was the exact same scratch that schmidt previously made. that's pretty incredible for such strong players. but again..... the commentators aren't paying attention.

ok, now the commentary is even worse, which i though would be impossible. appleton missing a shot giving schmidt the rack and the commentators say NOTHING about it but just keep talking about themselves. incredible! mind boggling.... this is supposed to get people interested in 14.1. i don't think so....

ok at 1:02:25 i'm watching appleton and thinking that if he takes that 5ball? next to the 10ball, he's going to have to be concerned about the scratch in the corner or draw back off the rail. the commentators are in never never land. then appleton scratches in the corner which was an incredible mistake for such a great player.

It was pretty nice of these guys to take the time and put up money and do all the work to get this event going. They even got the final match streamed live, free. I don't think we need to look this gift horse in the mouth. I think they did a lot for the game and we should just leave it at that.

You are more than entitled to your opinion my friend but when you are running on no sleep whatsoever after running a four day event for well over 100 players you are more than welcomed to try and do this yourself. I look extremely forward to following your event stream when it happens so please let us all know. Will it happen on that piece of shit $50.00 table that no one actually cares about that keeps taking up space in this forum or somewhere else? I'm holding my breath in anticipation.

Only an authentic BLOWTARD would post comments on this forum critiquing the commentary of this match. These two guys worked their balls off putting this event together the past two years and a ton of work and personal sacrifice went into it by them and others, including me, to make it as successful as it has been. Please, constructive criticism I’m sure is welcomed. Making rude comments to break the balls of the guys that put this event together is immature and just plain ignorant. Please, post links to what you’ve done to help promote the game – I really look forward to reviewing and critiquing them.

again i had to turn off the sound because the commentary is about everything but the game at hand.

These guys busted their asses for months to put this event together. They could have dubbed the entire video with friggin polka music and I personally would not have cared. I have a lot of respect for guys that walk the talk & get out there and bust their asss to promote the game.

Wow...just wow...

Umm, yeah, Im gonna just join the ranks of those standing up for the event and the promoters. green rep all around...except for the "blowtard"...hahahaha classic. :D

I wish I was in the states to enjoy all of these great events, but I will be back soon. :) Not sure how much travelling I will get to do but I am damn sure gonna try.

You guys really make me wish I could do more to help out with pool in general.

I know you have heard it a lot, but great event, just purely a great event, and thanks.

Thank you all for the great support it is much appreciated !!

Now as for our greatest supporter "Sausage"

The purpose of the Live Feed was to pay thanks to all of the great supporters & Sponsors that without them this event would not be possible ! we even said that during the commentary if you were paying attention !

I look forward to one day seeing your event, or even a good constructive post for that matter. Because up until now i have seen Neither !!

When it comes to the event planning, be sure to chime in and ask for all the help you need... I am sure by now we will all be glad to help guide you with what you can go do with yourself !!!

Thanks again to everyone, and i really look forward to getting the 3rd Annual event underway !!

After the hours those guys kept that week, I'm surprised they were still vertical and speaking in coherent sentences. I played close to 18 hrs both Friday and Saturday and was barely functioning by Sunday morning.

Great job Charlie, Steve, Heather and anyone I missed!

Thanks everyone. We really worked hard to put this event on and we appreciate all the GOOD things that were said...as for the sausages of the world, ya just gotta sit back and laugh. Apparently he has nothing better to do with his time than try to knock other people down.

Forget the naysayers. Charles, Heather, and Steve-you guys did a great job and everybody knows it. Now rest up for 2012.

My Opinion

How is this for an opening shot? This is probably the best opening shot I have ever seen.

Getting back to the original thread. I watched the beginning of the match.
Darren made a very excellent opening safety but left that dead combo.
The opening shot that John made on the combo was not as good as the second shot he took. That shot was a sign of a experience professional.
Here is my opinion: Before the match started and the players were being announced. John was practicing lagging. There was no doubt in my mind that John was going to win the lag between the two of them.
I would guess that both players had equal time to practice and take shots before the match. In my opinion, no player should be hitting balls when the match is being introduce and about to start.

As for Stevie, Charlie and everyone else involved with running that Great tournament. We all know how hard it is to make it come off the way that you all did. A whole lot of hours & hours. Great work it is appreciated.

Sausage:

As they say, if you can do a better job...

They could have dubbed the entire video with friggin polka music and I personally would not have cared.

Hey! I'm Polish! Give me some Stanky and the Coalminers anyday!

thank you all for your work on this, during the SBE and in posting the video, which i just now finally got a chance to watch.

my girlfriend & i also enjoyed watching play during SBE, even though i didn't win one of the raffle cues...

many thanks again for your work to bring straight pool back!

Your very welcome... All for the good of the game !!!!

Speaking of videos, I have quite a bit of footage to go through just haven't had a chance. Since we got home I have been super busy moving and what not. Hopefully soon I can go though it all. I know Dave Daya wants a DVD of his match with Varner when he goes 95 & out !!!

Sorry you didn't win one of the raffles, and thanks for the support !!!

everyone seems to be missing the point which is common around here. it wasn't for lack of sleep or other excuses that the commentary was in la la land.

i'm not expecting howard cosell just someone who is interested in the game. see, when they introduce the "commentators" a reasonable person just might expect them to actually comment ON THE GAME.

everyone here circles their wagons and prepares for a fight rather than acknowledging the truth of my criticism and vowing to do better in the future. fact is, the commentators didn't even know anything was amiss before my post. i did this event a service by speaking up on this issue. and guess what, i will bet my bottom dollar that next years event will have better commentary as a result. i'll take my thanks in PM's.....

and RonF: i'm not sure what "blowtard" means but if you would like to explain it to me in person, i'm in north port, florida.

Selective reading is also pretty big !!

Here's what I wrote just in case you missed it, and I stand behind what I said !
