14.1 who would win?

No chance Thorsten is top ten. Hate to say it, but I haven't seen a top player who's game has fallen off as much as his has. His poor technique has really gotten the best of him.

i don't know if it's technique or the yips, but every other shot he doesn't stay down as he used too. he always had a little raise but now he jumps up.

That ain't as important for guys in their early 20s. How come they don't match up? Everyone wants to see it. 14.1 to 1000, 10 ball to 100, race to 10 in one pocket. Best of three. I'd buy that match...and I'm cheap!
No one wants to see it, that's why. No one watches straight pool. Even amongst us die-hards, few of us watch it.

No way they'd ever play a long straight pool race. For them to play a long 9ball race, somebody would have to put up a whole lot of money, but I'd be MUCH more interested in seeing that than I ever was to see the Color of Money match between Reyes and Strickland. I have never watched a race to 100 from beginning to end because it puts me to sleep, but I think I might make an exception if it were these two.

Fret not, for the coming years will give us more than a few matches between these two giants of the game, and as we saw in the Color of Money match, the result in one long race may or may not establish who the better player is. Let the pages of history be the judge of these two.

I'd like to see Filler and Gorst match up in an All-Around competition over a period of one week:

Day 1: 9-Ball-race to 20

Day 2: 10-Ball-race to 15

Day 3: One-Pocket-race to 10

Day 4: 9-Ball Banks-race to 10

Day 5: 8-Ball-race to 20

Day 6: Full 15-Ball Rotation-Race to 10

Day 7: 14.1-match to 200 points

The Champion would have to win at least 4 of the 7 individual disciplines.

That would be wild. My arm hurts just thinking about playing that much.

Both Filler and Gorst are in their 20's and in great physical shape.
Playing the matches over one week's time shouldn't be too difficult for them.
They would have ample time to eat, relax and rest.
Also, because they pocket balls so well, I think the games should go rather quickly.

race to 200 is short for these boys in a gambling scenario

Yup, and if you can raise about half a million, this match might even happen.

Maybe it is something like the yips. It's almost every single moderately difficult shot and above, that he jumps out of his shoes on. Seems bizarre that he can't correct it.

Glad someone brought it up. What has happened to Thorsten in the last decade or so? I sometimes find it hard to believe that is the same player from years back who was as solid as anyone I've ever seen with a cue in their hands.

filler will be in vegas for a month (world 10b, us open 1pkt, banks etc). it's possible he will be in some kind of action..

Do you really think it would take that much, seriously?
If memory serves, it took $120,000 to get Reyes and Strickland to match up in the 1990's, at a time when Parica was a more dangerous opponent that Reyes. It would take a lot more than that to get the undisputed top two today --- perhaps $25,000 per discipline and $200,000 for the all-around. Actually, that's only $375,000, so maybe my number is too high.

No difference. No, we never called it a race to 150 or whatever points we were playing to a half a century ago, but that’s exactly what it is.
Of course there is no difference! Insisting that something be called what is used to be called is to deny the evolution of language and usage.

Or are we to insist on the use of the term consumption instead of its modern name of tuberculosis? The use of language changes with time. Calling a 14.1 match "a race to 150" is fine in the context of the times in which we live.
