I like Efren until I'm broke or have all the money.

I wonder if the original poster likes Shannon now or back when he seemed to be playing a lot more one hole. Efren was spotting the whole world a few years ago. He might still be willing to spot everyone for enough $. Both of their top game, I would think you would have to go with Efren. Doesn't the majority consider him the best ever? I have not heard of them matching up, but I would think it has happened somewhere down the line.

now that you mention it, i was thinking more of shannon when he was playing more. i haven't seen or heard of him playing too much since he started running his tour...but i gotta say though, from what i've seen, he's got some pretty nice moves.

As far as Money? I don't know. If you want to see one of the greatest one-pocket matches caught on tape, and I mean from the era before you either shot at your hole, or you were executed by the crowd and everyone else who's not patient, then check out accu-stats video. 98 ledgends of one-pocket. There were two that year, the World Championships, and the second was just the ledgends. There is a semi-final match Efren Vs. Shannon, one of the best matches ever, also, if you have patients, same tournament Shannon Vs. Varner is an awsome display of one-pocket as well.

And by the way, when they were at there best, I think shannon was about at his best right around here, efren was at his best at say 99-06, just my opinion. Shannon was the best Offensive/defensive shooter ever, what I mean by that is he went for a shot but was safe at the same time, Efren, well he's a different animal. I Think at there best they were even, maybe Efren giving shannon .5-1 ball, I was heavy into one-pocket from 97-03, now just watching. These are just my opinions by the way. NOT 100% fact, or the way it is, Just my opinion.

Thanks for explaining what you mean, cause when I read the first half of the sentence, I was thinking, doesn't that make him the best ever, if he was the best offensive/defensive shooter ever. I have been working on my run-on sentences. How am I doing?
You are right about the Legend of One-Pocket matches. Those were some of the best ones out. Efren vs. Cliff was a good one too.

Im not knocking Efren hes definitely one of the best ever, but If u want to see soem Good one pocket u gotta go back to the earliest LOP tournaments from like 1991 1992 and 1993! A lot of people dont realize Mizerak played some pretty crispy one hole. And you want to talk about playing agressively safe !! Steve Cook is the man. Catch a reckless but on fire Daulton vs Bugs !! All I can say is WOW to these older matches. NOt to mention the torturing squeeze Jimmy Fusco put on Rempe with Freedie Bentivegnas stellar commentary !!! Look into it !!

i have an accustat of the two and shanon beats efren, not that it really means anything. in the match one of efren's weak points does come out....when he's behind and the balls go uptable he just literally cant take it. ive seen c players have a better attitude than his in this situation, but hey it obvioulsy works for him so how can you judge.

If I recall correctly, even the living legends (grady, billy, johnny e., etc) all regard efren as the best one hole player ever. They were saying this at least a dozen years ago (see shots moves and strategies).

With his knowledge of banks straight 3-cushion 9-ball and chess he's pretty much got the world in a headock. No way I'm betting the underdog with efren at the table.

for what its worth Johnny ervolino and Danny diliberto think efren is the best 1 pocket player ever. Thats good enough for me

Accu-Stats recently put out most of the older one pocket videos that have been out of print for awhile on DVD. You can get great matches for 16 bucks if you join the video of the month club.

If you won't spend 16 bucks for Daulton vs Bugs, Sigel vs Ervolino ( even has Cornbread, Hall, Freddie the Beard on commentary), Hopkins vs Cook, then you are missing out on the best videos ever made.

Efren has taken the game to a new level but the older videos have a style, history, and just plain feel of real pool that the new videos can't match.

Daulton played so damn good for awhile I thought he'd beat anyone but the Phillipino's when they're getting all crazy with it, but he just seems to have lost that extra edge. I still would have a hard time betting on guys as talented as Chohan against him, though. Shannon has won a lot in his time.

I just got thru watching this one & all i can say is WOW!!!!!! It was obvious halfway through that Shannon got into high gear (maybe top gear) but what is cool is he didn't run over Efren.

And the really sick part is that the Efren from now could probably spot the Efren from 98 a couple of balls!!!

IMO, at their best...

Efren gives Shannon 10-8, maybe on Shannon's break one of them goes to 9.

That sounds about right, 10-8, 9-8. Efren had a lot of respect for Shannon's game. Not many of the modern One Pocket champs are looking for Shannon Daulton. You see in pool, you are always rated at your highest speed, even if you haven't been playing. And if Shannon gets in stroke, none of these top guns have to like it. And I mean Scott, Cliff, Jeremy, Gabe, any of them.

I doubt that you will hear any of these guys woofing at Shannon anytime soon. If Shannon decides to get up and play, they may be in for a bad day.

And it won't be cheap either!

i don't know why, but i just really like the way shannon plays 1P. he isn't that old, but to me (if this makes any sense), he's got an older style of 1P. efren plays great...but shannon's got style:thumbup2:
