20-second shot clock with no extensions for $48,000

I thought it was fun even though the crowd became a bit tiring in my opinion. I hope future events use the same power girls

Stop the madness....

This isn't a World Championship....it's a simple quick 1 day tourney for TV entertainment. The players were paid and I was very much entertained. This only tells me that the objective was accomplished.

Call it madness if you like, but as far as I'm concerned, with the exception of the Mosconi Cup, pool (not snooker) hasn't had a single event that was this marketable.

EDIT: (append "in the last handful of years" to my last sentence)

looks like the ipt and bonus ball combined. i think it will be just as successful as either one, take your pick...

At first I thought the whole Power Zone concept to be plain stupid (double points when shooting from within the kitchen)....until I watched the Neil Robertson vs Shaun Murphy match.

In the last frame, there aren't enough points available on the table for Robertson to make a comeback, however by playing position to shoot all his shots from the Power Zone (much more difficult), he was able to manufacture an opportunity to win that match. High risk, high reward.

Usually a significant lead like that would have ruined the climax of the match, however the final frame proved to be quite entertaining because of the Power Zone.

Of course purists won't like it, but I think it is a way to get new people involved as spectators (and maybe they'll try playing as well). As they take a real interest, maybe they'll learn the real game.

Wow, Power Snooker? With 20 second shot clock? These two guys make it look way too easy...Along with all the rowdy cheering and all...

Thanks for posting Scaramouche & Mr. Jewett :)

I just watched the entire final and really enjoyed it.

No, it is not snooker, it is a different game played on a snooker table.

If anything, Power Snooker is to Nine Ball as Snooker is to 10-Ball.

More luck involved, but you still have to be good to win.

We used to play snooker in a similar manner.... move the pink ball over a ball and break like 8-ball.... breaker shoots again no matter what happens... makes for a much more open game.

Love the participation by the audience. O'Sullivan's is such a rock star...

20 second shot clock is a rocking idea.....if televised US events went that way, we'd get to see entire matches instead of a few shots or games here and there.....fantastic idea.....nice to see a smart event with a solid payout, that's good work my the organizers, hats off to them....

I love snooker, like the idea here, but the crowd was too much. I could barely watch the first match without wanting to turn it off. The singing, the yelling during shots, not my cup of tea. Back to quiet old pool for me.

Oh cool. Now maybe someone will wake up in the pool world and try to make pool more entertaining too.
