2009 DCC - Members Room - Here's the status - Suggestions?

I received a call from Greg Sullivan, who would very much like us to continue the tradition of the AZB/onepocket.org Members Room at the 2009 DCC. Steve Lomako and I will again be organizing the room. If you don't know what the room is; search through the DCC sub-forum; learn about it; then get your a$$ to the 2009 DCC.

He does not definitely have the venue layout finalized; but has stated that it will hopefully occur by early September. Once we are sure that we have the room; we will calculate the finances, finalize the details, and begin collecting the money.

We are trying for at least 2 tables this year; so that we can have 2 member's tables. If Jay Helfert decides to have the OnePocket Ghost competition in the room; we might have 3 tables (one dedicated to the 1PG competition; with occasional 1PG competition on one of the member's tables if the competition is heavy and if member play is light at the time).

If you have suggestions for the room - let's hear them.

If you want to volunteer to assist in the room - let us know.

If you want to sponsor the room; or advertise in the room - let us know.

If you want to ***** about the previous rooms.....well.....keep it to yourself (or let us know, it's remotely possible we would like to improve things).

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW. WE WANT THE DCC TRADITION TO CONTINUE AS SUCCESSFULLY AS BEFORE!!!!!!!

I loved the room last year, met a lot of AZers and play all the pool I wanted, sometimes I was the only one in the room, it was great.

Hey Willie, I'm hoping to make it in 09 and have already started working on something for the room. I'll pm you the details later and will help out anyway I can even if I can't make the trip.

Uhmmm is there any chance of setting off an area for an Aero Bed?

You know what forget that, is there a counter w cabinets underneath where I could fit and get some shut eye like 18 hours a day? They'll be a sink right?

We are planning the One Pocket Challenge to be held in the AZ/onepocket.org room if Greg can work out the details for a large enough room for three tables. Steve Booth of onepocket.org will be helping out as well. This year ALL the donations and entry fee money will be held and distributed by him.

The One Pocket Challenge will only run during the three days of the One Pocket event. We may add an AZ One Pocket event if there is enough interest. Top pros will be barred from this one, even if they post on AZ. So Gabe and John you can quit salivating now.

It's great to see the ball start to roll!

This will be a new room in a new place, but the only thing I care about as far as the setup goes is I would like to see the tables play as close to the tournament tables as possible.

Williebetmore, thanks again for stepping up! :D

Did I snooze on this ?

Did I miss something somewhere ? Is everything now set in stone, as to the exact dates, room rates, etc ?
The last I heard, it needed some final I's dotted and T's crossed. Is it now a 100% sure thing, and only down to internal logistics ? I sure plan to attend, but I want to make sure it's going to be there before commiting to Air fare, Car rental and Hotel. Eastern Indiana is not my idea of a vacation destination with no DCC there. I have not seen a thread where Greg has confirmed Harrah's for sure.

I don't think we'll see final confirmation from Greg until September when contracts have been signed.

Mister T,
We have had the Members Room for 3 previous DCC's. The first 2 years, the tables were identical to the tournament tables. Last year, they were identical except for cloth that had been played on before (but not badly worn). The tables/balls are cleaned and maintained the same as the tournament tables.

Among the MANY advantages of room membership is having a great place to warm up for your tournament matches (if you are entered in one of the events). A playing table is difficult to find (that was the impetus for organizing the very first AZB room); and the AZB room is a great place to warm up. Last year I warmed up for my tournament match by playing Tony Crosby in the AZB room. Many pro's will filter through the room and are welcome to play on the tables versus whatever member is in the rotation.

Just booked my rooms tonight. Let me know when, where and how much for the AZ room. Smartest money you can spend if you are going. See you there.

Yes indeed, there are so many great things about the room. Last year was great and the AZ room is one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to DCC again!

A while ago, Greg from Diamond was kicking around some thoughts here on the forum about having some 7'ers at DCC sometime, maybe this year, I'm not sure. I think that's a great idea in general, but I wouldn't be crazy about having one in the AZ room. Maybe others would disagree, but that's just my feelings.

Again, thanks for doing all of this and I look forward to another great DCC! :D

T-man,
The tables in the AZ room will be 9 footers.

In past years Greg has always had areas of the venue with 7 footers for amateur tournaments and gambling. Initially the bar tables were in the same building as the tournament; but because of space restrictions, they were moved across the street as the number of tournament tables grew. I know that Greg wanted to get the whole tournament under one roof again if possible. I hope he succeeds.

I spoke with Greg yesterday. I don't believe it will be " all under one roof " this year. However he did say he would have more 9 ft tables at harrah's. He is doing the walk through and contracts this week. We should know more details after that.

I enjoyed stopping by the AZ room last year and would like to participate more this year.

I will be organizing some mini tournaments this year. I will start another thread about this in the Derby City section of the forum soon.

If you can get me sponsored into some of those mini tournaments I would greatly appreciate it Kevin.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
