2011 AZ Straight Pool Challenge!

Great shooting! I'd love to run a 71 before I'm 71! :p

Thanks. Just as older golfers strive to shoot their age, I guess running your age as you get older wouldn't be such a bad accomplishment, either.

But... I've still got a little way to go before I'm 71.

Please bump me up to 54. I set the new high run in my 14.1 league with this run.

I shot a secondary break shot above the rack, stuck to the rack with only a thin cut...and overcut it!
Please put me down for a 48 as of tonight so I am motivated to play for a larger run.

I think it's tradition to mention how the run ended, so...I was on a great run & very focused. I was picking good patterns & moving the CB perfectly. I started to think my all-time best of 91 was in trouble. That is until my daughter jumped in front of the pocket as I was pulling the trigger. I flinched (thinking of how I would crush her finger if she were to stick her hand into the pocket) & missed the shot by half a diamond. Oh well, there will be other days & other runs.

Very nice Mosconiac on the 54 and Winston same to you on the 71. Keep up the good work. Good to hear achievements like this.

Thank You

Thanks, Mike. Good job on the century. That's my goal, and I'm starting to get within shouting distance of it.

You are very welcome. I know how hard it is to run numbers, so I really do appreciate when other players tell their accomplishments. I wish it was easy for me like it is for many Pro players but I have to realize sometimes that is the way it is. When I do have a good run on some numbers, it means a lot b/c I really have worked on it. I wish that we all lived near each other. It would be so great playing with players that loved 14.1 as much as we all do.
Our games would go to another level.

That's why they're pros. They can do it at any given time. As for me, it might be another week before I get past the 2nd rack again. :p Hence my absence from the high run thread up until now. I refused to post anything less than 50, and it took me this long into the year to get a run above 50. But in all honesty, I played very little in the first few months of this year. I'm also sold on the Predator shaft I bought 2 weeks ago. I've shot with it only 3 times (and only twice with my preferred tip) and already set a new presonal best. I'm still getting used to the nuances of low-deflection shafts, and from that standpoint, I'm excited because I believe I'm only going to get better as I continue to figure it out.

72 Tonight

I ran 72 tonight with a OB Cue break stick. I had a Everest tip put on it just to see now the OB thick shaft would hit and it does play great. The run ended when the cue ball was kicked in the pocket after making a break out of a cluster.

***It was really easy running those balls after hearing such great news here on the Forum..........

Beat me by one!

All kidding aside though, great shooting. There is something there with LD. They say Bob Meucci knew it 40 years ago.

beat my best

Well, I've been taking a break from pool and focusing on gardening and other outdoor activities now that the weather is nice. But I did feel inspired for about an hour just after work yesterday and ran a 48.

While not a particularly exciting number, I am encouraged because it felt like I had finally "gotten it" so to speak. I played in a very controlled, deliberate fashionion, planned well, and executed my plan well. My run ended with a scratch in the side, but the table was opened up nicely, so it could have gone quite a bit further. Oh well, you fellas know how that goes.

Now, off to gardening again...

Is that something you grew in your garden? When you dice those, does it make your eyes tear? :p

J/K. Seriously, congratulations on a fine run even in the face of your "hiatus" from regular practice. Sometimes a hiatus is just what we need to infuse a charge in our game -- sometimes we see the table clearer after not seeing it for a while.

Good going, JL!

Hey, thanks man! Yeah, weird typo. I think that I'll develop a cultivar and name it that - ha ha.

Yeah, it felt good to play again. I'll be playing more frequently in the coming months. It gets quite hot here in the bible belt.

Thanks again and cheers to all...

hello everyone I just saw this challenge for the first time and I would like to add my little 55 pesonal best for the year but don't know exactly what to do to get it there. I pretty much thought straight pool was dead, I learned to play in the early 90s played it for a year then moved, and no one around where I moved played it even with me trying to teach them:( so I quit playing and picked up 9ball, I started practicing straight pool occasionaly a few months back and hit my 55 while teaching my son how to play he learned the hard way about breaking safe:D I told him and showed him how to break but youth knows better then I:grin-square: my run came to an end when my wife interrupted us and started talking to me, I missed an easy rail shot that left me perfect for my break shot:angry:. glad to see there are people out there keeping the game alive.

Click on "2011 AZ Straight Pool Challenge" and send a PM to "Alinco". (He started this Thread).
Tell him that you ran 55 and would like to be added to the list.

PS: Good run. Keep it going.
