:: 2012 AZ Cue of the Year - The Veneered Wonder ::

you don't need to rob it from me bud... all you gotta do is say you want to try it & I will send it to you to play with for few months but if you don't send it back, you know I be on the next flight out to get it myself..:D:D:D

You shouldn't have said that bud cos you know I'll not return the cue just to have you visit me in china!! Haha

Hey Jive, you up for a game of Wawa YoYo. You send me the cue. When Wawa comes looking for it. You tell him I have it. When he leaves there to come here. I express it back to you. We can take bets on how long it takes him and the cue to end up in the same country. I need to get some airline stock.

Larry

Haha sounds like a plan...but somehow I think that wawacue fellow has resources to get back the cue... Or we can just half the butt... And make two really pretty jump cues :)

Jake really outdid himself, and Jive is the lucky recipient of this beauty!
Great pics too, love the rings and that Cocobolo has great grain.
I met Jake at a show, very nice, humble man.
He just enjoys making his Art!
Thanks for sharing Jive : )

From what I hear and sneak peeked, this guy ain't no one trick pony...he's got quite some other cool stuff brewing...

It's been 6 days now and I can't put down this cue!
This cue is really "brains & brawns"....it plays as good as it looks!

congrats, Jive, I know you are really serious about points and veneers, so if you approved this cue it must be very perfect at least.

I see that you have been busy dealing in cues and hope to see pics of all of them.

Cuong.

edit: I just had another closer slower look of the cue and the cues nominated for CotY 2012 and the design of this cue is a revelation.

I was one of the lucky ones to see this cue in person before it went on it's journey. The pictures you took are great. They capture the true beauty of the cue as if you were holding it.

Phenomenal cue, glad to see some good photos of it.

Is the cue cored with purpleheart?

Many have witnessed the beauty of the cue before in flesh and have had stamp of approval from them..so my words are probably of the least importance here. This cue is simply sweet!

I did try my best to photograph this cue the best of my amateurish photography skill can conjure..still I think the beauty of this cue amplifies further when you play with it...

Thanks. From what I gather its a true full splice, but I just dropped Jake a PM and hopefully he'll have some time to chime in on this since I won't be the best person to discuss his construction.

I'm very interested in the answer.

IMO you could partially core with ph after the splice is constructed, or the maple front could've been cored prior to the splicing. Either way it's still a "full splice" cue.

Jake really is a humble man. His builds are nothing short of artwork. And you have to appreciate him doing something he really enjoys! I LOVE the cue Jake made for me. Playing my best game with it! I have referred to it on more than one occasion as an extension of my arms :) 3 Cheers again for Jake!

I really hope Jake doesn't answer the construction questions. Sometimes the beauty is in the mystery.

Obviously it's up to Jake to answer any questions about the build, but imo the mystery in this cue lies in the overlapping veneered boxes/points/designs (hence the name, "Veneered Wonder"), and not whether he cored the front with another wood. I think we already know that the front is cored with ph (obvious from the pics), I'm interested to know why he did it and if the entire cue is cored with ph (as some cuemakers are doing now).

Either way it's a fascinating cue, and answering my question would not diminish its mystery or beauty one iota.

Yes, its cored with PH. The three materials you see at the joint are ivory, phenolic sleeve then purple heart. I would never not core birdseye or ivory. I usually like to full core, or partial front core even the traditional fullsplice cues i've done

Thank you Jake. I think purpleheart is one of the best hitting woods out there, and in a full splice the weight works out great too. Glad to hear that it's both a looker and a player.

How did I miss this thread?!?!?!

Great looking cue! Congrats Jive - you know how to pic them:thumbup:

Congrats to Jake also, great build!

Nice to hear that you play with it also, it deserves it:)

This cue is really a looker,I wish I had seen and hit it

I had the pleasure of meeting Jake over lunch and pool.
He really is doing this as a hobby, which I think is great.

I asked for one,but it won't be soon, this boy is talented
and Jive was smart to grab the cue while he could.
