2014 AZB Cue of the Year is - "Landslide" by Paul Drexler!!!

Landslide

How dare you guys name my cue Landslide. LOL, Seriously thanks to Jamie for doing this every year and Paul and Ellen for building a beautiful cue. And for any doubters I am writing this after hitting a few balls with this cue and the hit is superb.
The one thing that bothers me is in 2013 there was 547 votes this year 166 votes. Factor out all the cue makers and their help that voted and that does not leave many people interested in caring enough about custom cues. Its a tough road for you cue builders, thanks for doing what you do.

Thanks again
Eric

pfd Studios - CUE OF THE YEAR 2014

First, let me thank Eric for choosing to post this cue - he has lots of top makers and exceptional cues to select from. Second let me thank all those who took the time to vote (regardless of who they picked - participation is important) but especially the ones who vote for our 25th Anniversary design for Cue Of The Year. Lastly, I thank my wife who did much of the programming and actual inlay work, she is a real asset to have when it comes to project like this, for sure.

Jamie, keep up the good work - you are to be commended for the time and effort it takes to make these polls happen.

My best to all,
Paul

Here are some comments Paul made to an individual asking about the playability of the cue in an email. This is post from a Facebook page, and thought it would be an interesting read for the viewers here.

"There is nothing about this design or construction that would preclude this cue from being highly playable. It is built around laminated maple core using marine grade epoxy. Please keep in mind that while the joint and buttcap are both Ivory - elephants push trees over with their tusks. Ivory is a very solid material."

He also provided the basic specifications. "The overall weight of the cue and shaft is 19.10 oz with a balance point of 18.5 inched from the buttcap."

He estimated the construction time at roughly 100 hours of which the joint and buttcap alone consumed over 10 hours.

He concluded by saying that he does not make cues that cannot be played with. "The function of the cue is to hit billiard balls not to be a wall hanger or museum piece."

Jamie,

Thanks for sharing that info.

Paul is one of my favorite CMs as he is so diverse in his offerings like no one else IMO. I am a fan of cues with laminated maple dowels as those type cues don't wrap. Hearing that Paul uses that construction method is very cool info that he shared.

Congratulation to a Masterful couple doing Masters work.

That is a very unique work of art and very well
deserving of 2014 Cue of the Year!

Congrats to Eric on a one of a kind beauty and
thanks for the info on the cues playability. When
I first saw it I thought it to be a showpiece only.

Congrats to Mr and Mrs Drexler on the making
of this exceptional cue. I was shocked to read
that only 100 hours went into the cue, I would've
bet that it would have took much, much longer to
complete a very detailed cue such as this. A job
well done would be an understatement. Congrats
on a fabulous cue and all of the other wonderful
work that you two do.

Thanks to all the fellow AZers who took part, this
is only my second year participating, but I'm looking
forward to the next one as long as Jamie wants to
do it again. Thank you Jamie for the efforts you put
forth to make this happen again. I love cues and this
is great for enjoyment and entertainment.

You know it's a nice cue when they totally forget to put on the ring work and still run away with the victory! :p

Congratulations

Beautiful...
Does anyone have pics of the top 5? Nothing came up on my search...except this thread.

Congrats on the win, this cue truly is spectacular. The design is nice but i think it's the use of different materials that brought the designer to another level. Thanks for sharing and huge thanks to Jamie again for putting COTY together.

Monster. PFD cues are very special. The pride and genuine commitment to progress are evident. PFD cues have earned their link in the chain of excellence.
