2022 DCC Discussion Thread

I'm not sure AS is Onsite. I get that AS is the face of it - but I thought Onsite was a contractor and that this isn't an in house job. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
I think OS handles the streaming end of it. Accu-stats has the cameras and commentators and maybe some production capability but from there its all OS. I might not have this 100% correct but its close.

I just got back from DCC yesterday. I was there at the invite of 60 Minutes for a piece they are doing on professional pool.

Too give you some background this has been in the works for three years. The same man who wrote the Kid Delicious book "Running The Table" is now a correspondent for 60 Minutes. His name is Jon Wertheim. He contacted me over three years ago and we began a discussion about doing something with pool. It got put on hold until about three months ago when Jon contacted me and said they were ready to go. Over the next couple of months I was in contact with the producers of the show and we decided that DCC was the best place to meet some of the games top players and see them in action.

I arrived on Friday, Day Two and they came in from New York on Saturday, Day Three. We only had two days to film (Sunday and Monday). I had put them in contact with several players in advance (Shane, Jayson, Alex, Filler and Gorst) and they planned to focus on them at DCC. I was there primarily to gain them access to other players, key people like Pat Fleming, and different areas where they were interested in filming. Also they needed me to explain how things worked and other details like that.

Things went well and they got many hours of tape to review. I will be going to New York next month for final tapings. There are no air dates yet but will keep you informed.

The gist of this piece about pool is the state of professional pool today and the ability of pro players to make a living. As we all know, pool is a sport that is mostly unknown by the general public. 60 Minutes plans to make more people aware that there are a series of professional tournaments where players can earn money playing. I am glad to be a part of this project
This reminds me of the news reporting on the homeless in Seattle and Spokane, and how WE really need to address these issues.

When I see someone standing at an intersection in the road, holding a cardboard sign saying, "homeless, hungry, anything helps' wrote on it, and they look right at you, they're ignoring the signs posted on the entrances of the businesses in the background that CLEARLY say, "we're hiring"! It just reminds me of all the pool players crying about no money in pool, and all their supporters saying the same thing, then echoing the same repeat chant, why can't we get sponsors to support our sport! Then that leads to the 1,000 reasons and excuses as to why NOT!

Being a pool player is a choice, just like its a choice to work a job. If someone would rather play pool for a living, instead of holding down a job, while PLAYING pool, Steve Mizerak comes to mind immediately because he was a grade school teacher that didn't give up his job to be a pool player.

One of the major set backs of Professional poolnia that there are NO Pro "ONLY" events, because without amateurs playing with the Pros, there's almost NO prize money to be paid out, therefore there's NO separation between the Pros and amateurs!

And 60 minutes, pleaaaase! They do broadcasting of ANY subject that draws in their VIEWERS, which is HOW they get to SELL advertising, which is how they make their MONEY!!!

Is 60 minute interested in sponsoring this sport, because if NOT then they can join the LONG list of EVERYONE else that has made money off the backs of the Professional players, because they got to SELL ADVERTISING SPOTS!!!

More hot air. But thanks. Again, either start this revolutionary new tour or just fade away. Whoever said talk is cheap must have known you. Back to ignore. BTW, Miz taught for about 12-13yrs. When the Miller deal hit he was out of the classroom. One tv commercial made hm more $$$$ than 10,000yrs of pool could have.

Well the point is AS could have picked anyone but they picked what appears to be the shittiest outfit possible. Low bid probably.

I've watched a lot of streams that were handled by OS and they all were fine. You can have internet-related outages regardless of who you are. None of these pool streamers are using ESPN/FOX quality equipment. I watched two days and both days the stream was perfect. My problem is with DCC mostly and the buyback system. Makes scheduling a nightmare. Really need more than one table and the ability to show a couple outer tables. The full event pkg. is still a good buy imo.

That should be a fun match. Are we sure yet if one pocket finals are today or tomorrow? As mentioned a few posts back, the schedule is conflicting.
Not sure - the Derby's draw system makes it all but impossible to figure out what's going when. Plus, Onsite has occasionally gotten a match time wrong, but that might be related to the first point. I only really find out who's playing when like 30mins to an hour ahead of time.

Based on the schedule Joe Jaguar posted earlier, it seems like the 1P final could be tonight.

Ignorance i swear, can't get your facts straight can you!

How many commercials???

Mizerak became famous outside of pool circles after appearing in a humorous commercial for Miller Lite beer in 1978, in which he executed three complicated shots (which took more than 100 "takes"), then proclaimed that you can "really work up a thirst, even when you're just showing off". Due to his fame as a result of television advertising, in 1980 Mizerak quit his job as a teacher to further promote Miller Lite in billiards demonstrations at trade shows while continuing on the tournament circuit. He did another dozen or so Miller Lite ads over the next decade
