2024 World 8 Ball Championship (2-8 Sep), New Zealand , Winner $75K

Those are some serious smoking/tobacco rules. Interesting to note that one rule states they can be fined $1000, another rule gives them a yellow card and loss of rack on first offense.

what is the point of this rule? weiwei returned from the timeout before siming..

The rule is phrased that nobody should be vaping, smoking or drinking during the match. I can see how you don't want someone with a cigarette hanging out their mouth while at the table or while seated. I can also see how these OCD referees consider anything you do during your timeout to be considered "during the match" and rule like a dweeb.

It's good that these protocols are provided to the players in advance of the event. But it's bad that for most of these players, the world championship is the first time these protocols are in effect for them. These aren't WPA or WPBA rules being applied. These are EPBF-specific interpretations of the rules being applied to the women for the first time. I feel like the women should be competing under similar protocols and format at their world championship as they are held to during the regular year. I can see a couple minor tweaks needed for the gravity of the event but not a drastic shift from what they experience year-round.

It seems Allison agrees with that sentiment.

I'm wondering if it is to eliminate someone taking a *ahem* performance enhancing drug during a match. I remember playing a dude once who was all over the place until he "went out to smoke a cigarette." Came back 10 minutes later smelling like Cheech and Chong and couldn't miss.

my assumption is that she smoked outside. probably law in NZ. i don't smoke anymore but i dislike these societal clampdowns on smokers, encroaching on personal liberties. let weiwei smoke

Silly smoking rule in their rule book https://probilliardseries.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/New-Zealand-2024-Protocol_Rev1.pdf , don't think MR or other events have it
More blunders with these EPBF refs again like in Feb Las Vegas Open this year
They missed that Biado foul on that beautiful kick.
Foul called on Seo Seoa when there was none. Didn't allow appeal when rule book allow it. :ROFLMAO:
(Around 5hr 52min)

With Rita Chou and Han Yu out, Siming and her nemesis Liu Sha Sha should be favorites though Liu is back playing after long break.

Bizarre that the Women World event this year changed to few short sets instead of 1 long set. All their other World men and junior events are one set.
That ref is clueless! First of all he was out of position to make this call, and it was an obvious good hit! Pretty embarassing to have referees that know nothing about pool. Does not speak well for this event!

That is what drug testing is for. WPA sanctioned events are randomly tested.

no one on earth is bunning a spliff and playing their A game 🤣

I'm not sure MR have anything like this in place... Hell, I've seen people vaping in their chair in MR events lol

I do feel that NZ smoking laws may have had something to do with the rather OTT response and enforcement of the rule...

I don't think increased smoking laws are a bad thing either, but I do think if someone smokes... let them F smoke...

It's a break in the game, who gives a toss what you do with it?? I mean, JJ went to the 'bathroom' do we need to see him piss? Do we just slap adult diapers on people and say no breaks for anyone? A break is a break, do with it what you will... go for a smoke, take a deuce, have a nap, call your mum....

Docking a rack and a yellow was nonsense. Almost as nonsense as the refereeing in general at the event...

The semis are all set but they start at 2 AM and 4 AM New York time on Saturday. Ouch!

I'm sorry, if you can't go more than 2-3 hours without using a drug, nicotine included, you probably don't belong in the World Championship competition of anything.

Either that or quit this charade of trying to make pool an olympic sport. How many sports at the olympics are going to give players smoke breaks in the middle of their matches?
