2024 World Pool Championship

What?!? First of all we need to lose the whole “format” thing. In 9 ball the winner breaks. Lastly, the point of winner breaks is you can be down 10-0, win a game and get the break, control the table to get back into the match.

In the world of “format” where the proper rules are changed to alternate breaks, and you get behind, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get back into the match if your opponent wins his break games.
Please let's not get back to this question, winner's vs alternate. Both formats have advantages and disadvantages. IMO alternate is better (look at tennis), but again, both are okay. Just run enough tournaments in both, so that everyone is happy. There is no black and white in this matter.

Gorst near perfect up to 9-2 but showing some weakness in the late stages vs Raga.
But is Gorst playing perfect or is he playing lucky? I don't 100% get it. He's been battling since the start of the tournament and even commentators saying that he isnt on his A game, he probably is playing with his B game.

But to me, playing on his B game and still pulling wins, even if its hill-hill... speaks volume. -- As I said, he's either playing good even with his B Game, or he's getting extremely lucky, and pool has tons of luck in so many different aspects which I dont wana talk about in this post.

no just no, don't I play tennis myself but dont compare two different games as if they both relate. 9ball is an attacking offensive game, its boring as is...if you make alternative game to an explosive attacking game then it becomes SUPER BORING....are you trying to kill pool? if so then sure you do all the boring stuff you want.

9ball is about break and runs, thats why I also advocate big pockets with 9ball game, I can write an book about how these small pockets is destroying the game of 9ball and isnt good long term.

Format doesn't usually refer to break rules. The format in use this week was Field of 128, double elimination down to 64, "B" side qualifiers draw into the "A" side qualifiers, and then single elimination to the end.

Like you, however, I've always preferred break rules that have winner break, but I can live with or without a break box.

tell chua about the tough pockets too 🤣

11-3, he missed one open shot, and definitely leads the BNR bonus prize hunt
Some of you really don't understand the game of billiards. You think because he havent missed one set that the small pockets doesn't affect him? Listen, this same guy who's your impressed with, one other day he'll be missing everything left and right on these same equipments, the same guy, with the same cue.

I myself sometimes go to a pool table and feel like amonster and not miss a thing, then next set ill miss two times each game. You really really must know this by now if you've been playing this game for sometime.

Watch Chua tomorrow missing easy shots, then come back to me and tell me what you think. Ofcourse you'll go "His game was off today" but in your mind still convinced that its the norm that this one set in the small pockets that these small pockets don't affect him, I know human physiology, its a loop.

Nice final four. A world 9-ball champ in Gorst, two World 10-ball champs in Kaci and Szewczyk and a very credible Johan Chua. It's anybody's trophy to win.

I’m rooting for Johann Chua. I’ve always liked his game, and there was a nice interview segment that aired prior to his match with Dang Jin Hu. When asked about the $250,000 top prize, he said that he came from poverty and that he’s used to not having money, so the prize money wouldn’t change him and he doesn’t think about money much. Nice humble attitude and a classy answer.

I think you missed the point of the Matchroom format, not so easy to string racks.

I agree wholeheartedly that the break is not a part of format. If you read the post I quoted, the statement made was “coming from behind is tough with this break format”. Apparently math is not that gentleman’s strong suit.

Right on. As you note, alternate break means fewer come from behind wins.

fingers crossed from my end towards a Kaci / Gorst final

these guys have heat and I can see Kaci with the win by intimidation

Kaci never close to losing a match winning 62/85 racks thus far

regardless of results tomorrow,
he will exit this tourney with a game winning percentage likely between 65% - to 70%

guessing this would rank quite high historically for an event of this scope
