2024 World Pool Championship

If you think the national anthem being played for fedor is woke you don’t know the description of woke. Lol Like many immigrants he now considers himself an American. He is a LEGAL immigrant. What essentially built this country With. Do you think every American who competes in the olympics for us is born American? more and more the people who seem to love this country the most are immigrants. I’m around a lot of them with my work and love this country because they’ve been to the places in the world that are terrible and even though we aren’t perfect they know how amazing it is here. Fedor lives legally in America. As far as I know pays American taxes. loves this country as a citizen so to me is an American.

Is it plausible? Sure. Do these rumormongering posts have any credibility at all? No.

i was thinking of it when three pinoys were heading towards the semis, two of which are in the same stable.. but for kaci and gorst i don't see it. they're rivals, they're already quite well off. plus, this is a 10 year deal, and it's not hard to imagine both of these getting another chance at the 250k.

on a trivia note, back when thorsten and alex won the WC and first prize was around 100k, they had bet on themselves and came home with more than 100k. iirc. maybe someone remembers the details better

Anyone have any idea who won the high Break & Run money?
... only L16 onwards counts so i would suspect chua in his match vs dang on table 1. he made 7 BNR's, but don't know how many in a row. ...
I don't know who won the B&R prize. It might have been Chua, but, despite reports that he had 7 B&Rs in his match with Dang, it was actually 5. He had one 2-pack (Games 8 and 9) and three singles (Games 4, 6, and 14).

The difference between 1st and 2nd in the recent World Snooker Championship was £300,000

Sure, snooker players are more well paid, but pool players will get there.

That may very well have been the most exciting finish to a tournament ever. My 11-year old daughter was sweating every ball with me from when Fedor was up 13-10 all the way through the hill-hill rack, the win, and the award ceremony. She had me explaining everything including what play-by-play and what color commentary is. She was so thrilled when afterward I showed her this picture. We were rooting for Freddy G. She shouted with joy when Kaci scratched. LOL

It was so damn funny in the ceremony when Kaci grabbed the mic a second time and said “And by the way. I won the World 10-ball Championship twice.” What he really meant was “Put some respect on my damned name!”

Sometimes as adults, we only see the world from our skewed view point. When we think the world is going to hell in a hand basket, along comes the fresh eyes and minds of our youth to remind us of how we were and more importantly...what we can be. I love that she is excited about watching this, but I will tell you...it probably isn't as much about pool as it is with spending time with her daddy. Enjoy and cherish this moment because she will soon find boys and other interests. Life is a beautiful cycle and there will be many re-racks before the set is over. Cheers.

While I don't believe the rumour of a "saver", I also don't doubt the notion that both players at the very least had the idea floating around in their heads. That's what pool players do. Always look for angle to max their payout.

I will say this... If any players make a deal, and it comes to the light of factual day. I hope MR heavily suspends any of those players at the very least for such an arrangement. The chopping of prizes undermines the product MR is trying to sell. The magnitude of winnings is more important to the consumer then the trophy. Lets not kid ourselves. If MR could simply provide a trophy and cheque for $10k and generate the same drama w/ pulling in new viewers at the same time, they would.

I found it curious that they handed out medals, which I thought was just a WPA thing? Is matchroom handing out their own version of medals?

Never heard of finalists splitting a top prize informally in any pro sport. No reason to believe it happened here, and if did, MR should of course heavily sanction.

Besides, after taxes, Fedor will be lucky to have $200K leftover. 📉

the world 9b championship is still a WPA thing.. the top brass were there, too. collecting sanction fees one day and threatening players with future bans the other day..

Defense and kicking may be Kaci's only weaknesses. He can run the racks with the best of them, meaning Josh and Fedor, but cannot beat opponents to the shot as often as they do. This was not the first time that weakness in the tactical part of the game cost him a major title.

Going back to the semis of the 2022 World 10-ball, Kaci played Szewczyk in the semifinal and the winner would be heavily favored to beat Tevez in the final. At double hill, the Kaci/Szewczyk match would come down to defense and kicking and when Kaci whiffed on a one-rail kick at the three-ball, it spelt the end of his chances, as Szewczyk ran out and went on to win the title. Time stamp 2:17:33, here it is:

As we've seen, the tightening of the pockets in Matchroom majors has placed a greater emphasis on safety play sequences than ever before. Per AtLarge stats, at least one safety was played in 51% of the racks contested at the WPC.
I've only been watching pro pool for about 2 and a half years (tons of it; I don't watch most other sports anymore). I've watched a few dozen of Kaci's matches in that time. From what I have seen, Kaci's defense has become very, very good.

His kicking (nor jumping) does not stand out above other players, I acknowledge, but he is not subpar.

More important, his safety game to my eyes has been quite adept. He has became especially good at freezing the cue ball against other balls to force safety misses that give him ball in hand. He does that as well as anyone now. He killed Chua by doing that and won two or three balls in hand when he took the final nine games of the match.

I suspect he's been putting more effort into his safety game since his injury since he cannot go on offense quite as much. But he did make some curious choices during the early stages of his matches with both Chua and Gorst that put him ... behind the eight-ball (sorry, couldn't resist.)

In any case, I don't think anyone, Kaci included, can win lots of big matches in today's game without becoming very good at safety play and defense. He didn't have to play a ton of defense when he trashed Filler in the 2023 UK Open, but that's an exception and not the norm.

It is very cool to see Gorst has won almost $400,000 halfway through the year. Prize money is really growing.

Agreed! Already well past last year's money leader, Filler, with almost a full half year to go. Would love to see Gorst finish well over the $500k at the end of the year.

I'm not so sure about that. I have never seen WPA medals handed out by non-WPA officials. Emily is obviously not one.

It's allot easier to set up a 9' under a tarp w/o electricity, than it is to set up a 6x12 or a dart board with a generator and no fibre link to the world. :)
