Even tho Team USA won 10 out of the first 12 when they had to put Snooker players on Team Europe to come up with enough players today was the first ever white washing of a team on day 1.....

Yup 5-0 team Europe....

It was a team effort on Europe's side and their coach is undefeated in Mosconi Cup play....

We saw no team effort on Team USA's side and it begs the question if a player/coach was really the right choice... I think Archer is a great player and our hopes ride on his shoulders along with those of Earl and Shane... I just wonder if the duties of a coach went partially unfulfilled since he was wearing 2 hats and not just out there giving his all for Team USA...

Food for thought....

USA has no confidence at all. The dominance of the Euros has them in a stone cold coma. No one can coach them out of it. It's going to take some kind of momentum and a lot of luck to pull them through.

I completely agree; and at times it even appeared they thought they were prima donas and just blaming everything on bad rolls instead of dealing with the situation at hand.

I stand corrected... Was going by the commentary will remember to always dbl check my sources...... So it was the first white washing since going to 5 matches on day 1......

Thanks,
Chris

I always support my team, but that kind of attitude simply shows our players (in general) are not sincerely playing for the U.S.A, but only primarily for their own showing, aka for themselves.

Wrong players chosen, once again.

I would agree that a coach should be a coach, but to offer that as an excuse for the great team effort on
behalf of Europe and the semblance of "give-up" on behalf of U.S.A is just, well, more excuses (not your excuses, Renfro).

What exactly is the purpose of Buddy Hall there??

Perhaps just to honor one of history's greatest 9-ball players. Buddy never played on a Mosconi Cup team, even though I'd guess he was invited. He won the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in 1998, so he certainly would have been a good candidate for 1998 or 1999. But the first 9 Cups (through 2002) were all played in England, and apparently Buddy doesn't fly.

With the Cup in the USA this year, Matchroom saw fit to include Buddy in the festivities.

I just now saw this thread. I had already posted this in another thread so since this thread seems more appropriate I am just copying and pasting my thoughts, which apparently aren't much different from many of your posts in this thread, EXCEPT I do believe things can be different and that coaching can make a major difference.

Here's my post from the other thread.

This is not going well for the USA Team.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a different kind of day.

From a talent standpoint, I believe the teams are similarly matched. From a coaching perspective, at least from listening to Ralf, I fear the European Team is simply being coached better. Maybe it's just a different mindset when it comes to coaching pool in Europe. The European players seem almost giddy about their coach and what he brings to the team. I don't think I ever hear the USA Team talk so enthusiastically about their coaches in any years that I have been watching the Mosconi Cup.

Hopefully Buddy will be able to share some of his sage wisdom with these young guys and get them back on track tomorrow.

The European Team essentially trains all year together. The American Team has very little time to devote to training with each other. I think at this time, the European Team has the upper hand on the mental side of the game. The European Team also looks hungrier than our guys.

Watching and listening to the mikes on the U.S. Team, it almost appears that our guys are focused but that they may be focused on the wrong things right now. We can only hope for a major change tomorrow.

I don't think it has a thing to do with 'team effort.'

Basically, the rack with the 9 on the spot and breaking from the box makes it a) impossible to make the 1 in the side, or b) the wing ball in the foot corner pocket. The US team thought their many great breakers could dominate on that basis, but they mainly broke dry, despite some ferocious power breaking. Without a handle on how to make a ball on the break, and some of the bad rolls they got or the lights out play from the Euros, it was simply momentum rolling down hill.

Team Europe jumped over hooks and made balls, kicked out of hooks to make balls and get shape, and improbably snapped 9s at very critical points in matches (like the case game hill-hill with Mika v Shane).

Hatch dogged several shots, and Rodney and Archer frammed shots they'd normally always pocket. Shane under-rolled shape on a 9 on the short rail to have a steep angle, and hung it instead of going up 5-3 to the hill for what should have been an excellent chance to break the bagel to that point and turn around the momentum. Rodney made a good break with the cue ball under control but it was kicked in for a scratch.

I don't see how coaching or team play were any factor, from what I saw here.

It was an off day for sure. But nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, the tide could just as easily shift the other way. Pointing fingers and blame has become way too common place. Kind of sad really.
With enough determination, it's still very winnable for USA.

I only saw the last two matches today, but every time Team Europe broke the end ball went to the bottom rail and straight back into the nine. Unless Team USA can figure something else out, they need break the same way, IMO.

We warned you we were better at this format and this would be one sided.

Europe at 10/11 before a ball was hit was great value...

What odds on a complete whitewash then?

It wouldn't make any difference who the coach is, the Euros are just that much better than the US team, and they've proved it in the last several Mosconi's. We, (the US) can say we have the wrong players, but Europe left off Hohmann and Melling, and Melling has been outstanding in the Cup. Mix them up any way you want, Europe's the better team. It's time to let the Asians have a shot, that would be competitive.

I have to jump in here...i only saw the 1st 3 matches but what I observed was some glaring differences between team usa and Europe. how many times did you hear team Europe drop and "f" or s" bomb? I mean, the guys on team usa know they are wired up. it is an indication of the lack of team spirit and cohesiveness.......earl, while being my favorite one to watch, got tilted way way too early in this event...put a bridle on him would you? ..where is some leadership here? he is saying, "the table is too easy"?....I ask, then why isn't team usa making more shots?, he says, "this is stupid" or something to that affect,,,,,,,noy an indication of "desire to win".....then the statement to mika, "you missed that shot"...mika's reply, "why are you even talking to me?".....earl's sharking at it's best......either give earl his medicine or take him out back of the barn for a whipping. did you see the look in the eyes of the team coach for Europe? frigging BURNIING desire to win which was carried over to the team mates.......what did I see from the team captain for usa?...other than complaining, what did we get from the usa team members? ..usa yesterday was nothing short of embarrassing and a lack of focus and certainly a shortage of proper etiquette. and we wonder why pool is a dying sport here in usa.......the question is, can usa fix it? if they think not, and will continue another day like yesterday, then forfeit bow, send team Europe home and save us from this show of #*@*%#.....and buddy is there why?...gezzzzzzzzzz :thud::slap:

Europe could field another team of players not selected that would beat the USA..

Asia is not part of the USA or Europe, however, there is no reason at all not to put on anther invitation event of this type..
