5 rail one-pocket break?

Up, down, above, below -- it's actually quite logical.

You break from the head of the table and rack at the foot of the table, right?

So just liken it to a person with a head and foot. A standing person's head is up or above, his foot is down or below.

Relevance?? Your Honor.

if cutting a ball at your hole and going 5 rails on the same track for position or to protect your balls with the stack is a standard or even good shot, then why is it so crazy to use the same principle out of necessity when breaking?

Well, at the time of breaking, you're never in a trap and you're almost never in a position to run out. So you have little to protect and little payoff for taking a risk.

the table was the trap. the ball wants to go the 5 rails on it. i have the balls that open-up on my side to protect.

Because that isn't the break shot... DUH.

Dale(who can instantly recognize the break by that pile of balls DOWN near the end of the table)

Under those conditions, I think your only option is the Ram shot.

have you never cut a ball to your pocket and played the cue ball 5 rails to his side in a similar way?

You can think what ever you like , but the idea of adding 5 rails to the break shot is just like driving from Miami to Las Vegas and cutting through Cleveland.
If it makes you happy , and you have better results , by all means , whack away.
You should get plenty of action, right up to the first time you actually beat someone with it.

When Albert Einstein invented the game of one pocket he assumed the 5 rail break would be standard.

All I asked is if people have seen or tried it.

I still haven't.

I will, and I'll judge for myself... While I respect other people's right to an opinion, I really couldn't care less about what they think or believe.

could be, though. there's no law against it.

just like there was no law against mika trying to billiard the 9 1-rail every break in a major 9-ball event. he felt the conditions lent themselves to trying something new, and he went for it.

before you ask how that worked-out for him, let me say i don't recall, but i do know he ended-up having an ok decade.

I think your answer is no, nobody has seen it seriously used or done so themselves.

The more detailed answer is that there are good alternatives when the standard break isn't working well.

The final answer is that it's your money and I don't mind at all if you use a five rail break. Likely nobody else minds either. If you get good results with it, I'd love to see a video, even.
