Hey,

Does anyone have any feedback on 5280 cues, i am looking for real pool player reviews rather than what cue retailers will tell you.

My wife wants to get one, but i am not so sure if it is a good product !

Thanks Alot !

5280

I played with a 5280 for about 7 months, i got a great deal on the cue. Someone traded me a 5280 and 220 for an older model meucci that I had played with from my first day in a pool room [the italian flag model as they are locally known.] The stick was satisfactory, but I really disliked the pin and the feel of that pin on contact. It had a great taper, great weight and was truly a beautiful stick.

The downside to me is that I dislike any uni lock or semi unilock pin they seem to be a bit weaker in the joint that I prefer. I enjoy a good solid feel throughout the stick, I dont like the 'bounce' or vibration that comes from the unilocks that I've personally tried out.

Best thing I can say is try it out, and get other reviews.

Their product is good, but personally I won't own another one other than for aestethics.

I'm very put-off by how cheap/cheesy the cue is.
The joint pin is the import Radial as the cue itself is an import.
Should you ever need service on the cue, and my guess would be that at some point you will, not many C-Tecs/repairmen will have the necessary adapter pins for this cue. No after-market shaft will fit this cue without modification.
There are other considerations in buying any cue besides the initial cost.

That bumper also sucks... there are very few (if any) cases that will accept this butt joint up

The cue is made in China. The distributer of the cue is located in Denver, Co. Denver is 5280 feet, above sea level. Hence the name...JER

Import Radial

The pin is a concern if work needs to be done. I love the Radial pin that 5280's use so much that I have them installed on my other cues. Lucky for me my friend does all my cue work and he made the tools needed to fit the 5280 pin to the lathe. As for the cues themselves it seems like the have a thin finish or something because the rings and inlays seem to come through very frequently.

The distributor is also the manufacturer (Cuestix Intl.), and they are located in Boulder, CO. I have a friend who has a $2200 Cognoscenti, another $1000 custom cue, and also got a deal on a 5280 for $50, when they were being sold off. Believe it or not, this guy plays VERY well, and actually prefers the hit and playability of the 5280 to his other two cues...go figure!:grin:

Yea the 5280 cues arnt bad, but arnt great either. If your looking for a good starting cue, I'd go with Mcdermott, they have good cues and a excellent warranty too.

I did have a 5280 a few yrs ago and it was ok, it was a sneaky pete and for 100$ it wasn't bad and filled its purpose as a bar cue and break cue

Thank you all for your input.

She is no longer looking for a 5280 after hearing all of this.

we are probably gonna pick her up a Joss or a schon. I Would prefer her to get a Schon, i have never owned a bad one of thier cues. And believe me i have had quite a few schons !

And she is not using my McDaniels now that i am getting a Scruggs either......that is completely out of the question ! LOL

Thanks
Steve

Schons are great but knowing women, they like to pick a design as well.... well you might want to look into Mezz cues as well if you she doesn't see a Schon she likes.

I used to have a 5280 when Cory was endorsing them. The radial pin they use is very good. It is trouble to get aftermarket shafts work with that pin, I did send mine to Seyberts and it took 2 mts to get my cue back with a 314.

But the 5280 for the price, they are a very decent cue, I wish more custom makers would use that Radial pin. Transfers nice feedback on the hit. best of luck.

well here's the kicker. I Had a schon that she absolutly loved, but i up and sold the thing when i got my McDaniels !!!! She was like "What About Me !!!! "

I had a Mezz cue and i thought it was a piece of &^%$ IMHO

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks alot.

was it shipped standard or priority ?

pm me a tracking # if you have one.

Thanks
Steve

A guy in the rm had one I took afew hits with it and it had a good hit - I remember the design and looked it up in Meuller's catalog it was #mch12 advertised at $256 discounted from $320 (catalog 2007) so they were trying to unload them it had a 3/8 wood ot wood spiral pitch pin that what the descriptionn was. All unilocs get loose I talked to a guy with a predator uniloc and he agrees they can come loose at times. But I do admit that model hit ok.

Ever think of getting a Pechauer? Their proprietary pilot joint is pretty decent from what I hear.

Price is good too.

I recently got a 5280 Sneaky. I LOVE IT. I ESPECIALLY LOVE THAT Redline Tip made by Tiger .... So much so that I put that tip on my matched set player.

IT spins the (&$*(*9 out of the cue ball !!!!

I am very happy with my 5280 .... especially at the price!

Alot of high end cue holders including myself have a bad taste in their mouth about Dale Perry cues but it is almost crazy to pass up a DP for the prices they are going for on EBay. They are a very good playing cue and you can get them for about the same price as a 5280. The quality of the craftsmanship with the EBay cues is just like the cues of his that used to sell for $1500+ even though they may not have as much inlay.
