Thanks, guys.

You too, Blackjack.

Old habits die hard. When I knew 50 was in sight I wanted to clinch the 50.

Should have been able to get into the next rack but I got a little shaky.

First over 20 I've had in a while.

I changed back to my Southwest Cue about 3 weeks ago. I had run my earlier 57 with it but then switched cues for about a year and a half because a guy gave me the cue for free. What a knucklehead.:bash:

Been trying a lot of different drills and have been playing with Latimer, Mohl and Cozzolino and just watched some more Schmidt earlier in the day.

Who knows, but I'm going to keep going and try to run my age.

Southwest or whatever - keep doing what you are doing because its working for you. You CRUISED through those first 3 racks like they were nothing. Keep it up and eventually you will run your age! 90 is just 6 racks plus 4.

:D

And that's a song by the band Chicago, ain't it? "90 or 6 to 4"?

:p

Seriously, very nice, Dennis! I agree with Blackjack that I found myself sucking air through my teeth ("hissssss!") every time you were going into the balls, especially that one shot where your cue ball got caromed right back into a cluster of balls (you made the "almost pushed me right back in there" comment in the video about it). But you pretty much went through those racks easy. You just dropped your shoulder badly on that last shot, and "shoveled" the cue forward instead of stroking it. I think you're right -- you got a bit sharked by the "50" milestone.

But anyway, nice job! I have a feeling these will come more to you, now that you ventured into the 50 "no man's" land a couple times now.

My stroke was wobbly, but somehow I cobbled together a 54.

Congrats Dennis !

I think a funny thing happened during that run. I believe you have been Renewed ! I bet you cant wait to get back to the table now, believe me i know what that's all about.

If i were you i would never pack away that South West ever again !!!

You played at a very nice pace and you kept it quite simple, i guess that comes from the sparring partners that you have been shooting with lately. from what i have seen of there videos it seems to be really rubbing off on you !!!

Keep it up Buddy, and i don't think we have seen the last of you !!!

Nice run Dennis. It didn't look to me like you missed that last 10 ball because of nerves. It looked like you weren't happy with the shallow angle you would have been left with, so you tried to "will" the 10 to go in while getting a good angle on the 6 break ball. The evidence is that you did get a good angle on the 6! I recognize the shot because I specialize in it, and it's something I try not to do... take what the table gives you.

Oh, and I like the higher camera angle!

Thanks for looking, guys. I appreciate the positive comments that help keep me going.

And I also appreciate the critiques that should help me improve.

Sean and David:

I'll try to figure out how to go into balls more carefully. On that one shot before I ran the 10 down the rail in the penultimate rack, I was trying to make a ball and bump the 9 down for my next shot, but I was stretching and hit it too hard and the 9 went in.

On that secondary break, right after one of my break shots where I was down below the rack and there was a dead combo, I just hit it with high and hard and it got bumped back in against a ball. I guess I do not stop and think of control when I am one ball into the rack and I get a good looking easy break shot like that. I figure I will open them all up and have something. Probably not the best way to think. I almost had nothing.

My stroke was anything but smooth on the majority of the shots. A lot of hesitation followed by pokes. A lot of whipping my arm after shots. A couple of pulling back after the shots and a few lifting the cue up after the shots. Not pretty. need to work some more.

Dan, you are probably right about the cheating and the angle on the last shot. Looks like I wanted just a touch more angle.

I was able to put the tripod up higher on the counter. I could not reach the camera very easily once I did that so it is not quite centered.

Maybe. I am playing with Cozz tomorrow and Latimer on Monday.

I am also practicing that drill where you just throw out all 15 balls and try to make them. I am only up to 4 racks. I hope it makes me take all shots more seriously.

90 is just 6 racks plus 4.

:D

And, Dave- I think you need a calculator.

nice, Dennis!

i was impressed by your using just the right amount of speed on each shot.

one Could say that you got lucky, coming up with some dead combos right after the break; but those of us who don't believe in luck in 14.1 would say that you broke with the right controlled speed to generate a few secondary break shots plus give a good chance of having a dead one.

wicked good eye on that side pocket break, and several others.

I was thinking your best days were behind you and you come up with a 54 in a match no less. You're peaking at just the right time to snap off the qualifer for the Worlds. Latimer and company better look out, there's a new sheriff in town.

Nice! OK, now that you're warmed up, how about we get together in the afternoon soon for that rubber game to 50? You should be able to do it in one turn at the table, heh heh.

Michael: You should be at your new job by now. Maybe next week we can play.

We should try GCue some time. Tables are better than the other joint.

I was able to get a 23 (http://vimeo.com/26526497), 24 (http://vimeo.com/26534926) and 37 (http://vimeo.com/26548015) last night. Based on our play, if I did not have the videos, you probably would not believe it.

congratulations, Dennis! Just another one over 50 should build your confidence for future runs, which will come shortly.

Dennis - it seems that your high run should be higher than 57 based on these daily figures. Has your game improved recently, and you just need time to post a new high run?

Dan: I had a 57 two years ago, then my game went south for a while. The last few months, I had trouble getting out of the 20s. Just the last few weeks, things have started picking up a bit. We shall see.

Yes, been there three weeks now. A bit further downtown but can still make it to either place. I'll drop you an email about next week.
