6-Ball, innovative, good for the game! Tonite!

I'm not sure I like this. If 9 ball is too easy what is 6 ball?

I played this for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I'm not a great player but the only thing that kept me from running out the set was the break.
 
I feel that anytime you are playing, no matter the game, you are keeping in stroke. Something new stimulates people and gets them to think differently. Playing the same game over and over and over again can make things a bit humdrum sometimes and lead to a loss of interest -- at least for me anyway. The saying "Variety is the spice of life" holds true in pool as well IMHO.

One game I like to play occasionally is Cribbage Billiards. Really helps my cue ball control -- sharpens a lot of things in my game really. I started a thread on it here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=1600863#post1600863

If it was race to 2 with alt.break you could keep them all around for awhile. = they might eat, play pool, drink, buy something from your pro shop., and cue and tip repair if you do it on site.

I can see this helping rooms for a very small investment on the room owners part, but the format needs to be changed a little. Johnnyt
 
I think it's a great idea...quick and fun to watch. Anyone can beat anyone--- it's just a hair more skill than a coin flip. Why not pass the time with that?

I played in a 6ball tourney once, but it was race to 5 (and believe it or not, not 5 pack city like you'd expect). The tourney/matches went really fast, and lesser skilled players had a shot against MUCH better players. It was fun....(but notice, I said ONCE, not sure if it was ever held again; lol).

I also have to ask, why not just rack 6 balls (harder to make something on the break)???

At Comet Billiards tonight (7:30 EST), ACCUSTATS is hosting a first-time 6-ball tournament.

As far as I've heard, It's a 1 game, single elimination tournament, and will be carried live free-streamed on the above website.

If you're in the area. plan on being there....otherwise, log in and watch.

You're first question might be...What the hell is 6-ball?

It's 9-ball, but after the break, the lowest 3 balls get removed from the table.

This whole tournament should take about an hour, depending on who shows up, so they might even have another one after that!

Man, this has got to be the future of pool. They are really getting this streaming down. I have it on full screen a 24 inch monitor and it is very clear. Once I sit back at what is like a TV viewing distance it is perfect.
I would be willing to pay for this kind of quality if they had something I really wanted to watch.

I just watched it for a little while and it looked to me like a bunch of B and below players having a ball. Nothing wrong with that.

There were alot of levels playing. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were

1. nervous about the camera and the fact it was one rack

and/or

2. Unable to get in any kind of stroke because it was only one game.

P.S. It is interesting that Pat won regardless of the format.
 
i'm a c-player, i was there, my family and friends enjoyed watching live, i enjoyed playing, and i'll be back!

on a side note.... c-players are without a doubt good for the sport, and of course Pat Fleming has been really good for the sport!

I was surprised to see the woman go 1 and out.
I thought she was at a pro level. Didn't look like it.
