At Comet Billiards tonight (7:30 EST), ACCUSTATS is hosting a first-time 6-ball tournament.

As far as I've heard, It's a 1 game, single elimination tournament, and will be carried live free-streamed on the above website.

If you're in the area. plan on being there....otherwise, log in and watch.

You're first question might be...What the hell is 6-ball?

It's 9-ball, but after the break, the lowest 3 balls get removed from the table.

This whole tournament should take about an hour, depending on who shows up, so they might even have another one after that!

Entry fee? FREE!!!!! Accustats is posting up tonight.

race to 1 "6 ball" single elim. And this is good for the game how? We should all start playing 1 ball and get it over with.

I don't understand either how this is good for the game?

I would love to see all tournaments play only one game, all the time, year after year. Then fans, players and the press would understand what we are doing...

Now we are playing 6-ball, 7-ball, 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, 14-1, rotation, banks, onepocket and trickshots...

If everyone just played one-pocket, life would be so much better

I am playing 1 ball already, my opponents are playing the other 8 :D

Seriously, I don't get how 6 ball single elim does anything for pool. Some else watch it and let me know if I'm missing something here...

And what is your solution? Whining?

6 ball used to be played a LOT in the south. But we always just racked the 6 balls. Why rack all 9 just to take 3 of them off?

We/I played a lot of i6-ball on Long Island in NY from 1960 to the mid 1980's. That was my question too. Why not just rack the 1 to 6 and break? And 1 game? Guy breaks, makes 2 balls, takes 3 lowest balls off, 4 left, and runs out more than not. Other guy is out w/o getting a shot.

It's free but that format sucks. Johnnyt

It would be interesting to watch for a while at least. I've never seen 6-ball played that way.

Race to 1 single elim is pretty rough, though. Might as well just lag for the match... most of them will be decided by the lag anyway I would guess.

Hard to turn down free live streaming, though, so I'll probably tune in.

I'll be watching. I think this easy little free tournament where anybody can win might draw in a lot of locals that won't normally play in a tournament. Maybe get a few people excited about tournaments. Also it gives people a chance to let their family watch them play live from anywhere int he country. I would think if the players get the word out to their families they would have a lot of people login to watch. I totally see how this is good for pool:D. I wish I could be there to play.

I'm not looking for a solution... Pool is fine just the way it is to me. I was just making an observation. You are the one saying this is somehow innovative and good for the game and you are the only one who thinks so. Its not even 6 ball. At least if it was racked with only 6 balls it would be somewhat challenging to make a ball but these even take that challenge away. Only a moron would think this format is innovative and good for the game... Oh wait

Your right, it probably will draw a lot of first timers. It also will get some interested in pool and tournaments. But not the first timers that don't get a shot. I don't think anyone wants to be streamed to family and friends sitting in a chair. Johnnyt

You forgot 11-ball. Saw some strong local players at Hardtimes this past weekend rack a 10 ball rack and stick the 11 behind it. IMO they should just put all 15 on there and play it! lol.

WRT to 6 ball format I think its a matter of luck.
6 balls you break and make 1. There is only 5 on the table and you hope the lowest number ball is makable. Too much luck involved, IMO.

We play a lot of 6 ball in the Atlanta area but we just rack 6 balls. A 9 ball rack favors the breaker a 6 ball rack favor the person who is not breaking. It is harder to make a ball in a 6 ball rack. I personally hate a race to 1 those really piss me off, just MO.

This is the way we played it in New York, too, Neil. Since moving to South Carolina, I've seen 5 ball played on bar tables. Rack the first 5 balls from the spot back in a straight line. Hmm.....

I would like to hear something POSITIVE from you instead of constant whining.
If you don't think pool needs a boost you must be living on a vacuum. (or North Carolina)

What happens if you make 4 balls on the break?
