I've been playing on my 8' table for quite a while (played on many 9's before), and been scared to see how I would do on a 9'. I f-ing loved it!!!! the pockets were huge and there is sooo much room. The only down side was I found that I had to stretch alot more. I can't wait to go there tomorrow with my cue. Now I just need someone to pay for my table time.(14 dollars an hour:eek: are you fu*king kidding me)

pocket size is independent of table size, you can have 9' with tight pockets. you probably played one with buckets.

$14/hour is real steep, better find some better deals!

Yikes! If you're paying $14 an hour for table time, you need to find a new room...imo.

if the pockets are huge you might want to pick a different table. 14 bones an hour is too steep. somewhere between 5-10 an hour is about average

$14.00/hour!!!

What's that ol' line...???

Oh yeah...

The house ALWAYS wins!

Playin' a set for time there might get SERIOUS!!! Ouch!

$14/hour, is that for the table? one player? or your part of the total?
That is almost twice the going rate here in Sacramento.

14 dollers and hour ? Where are you playing ??

.

I only was only there for a half hour at lunch. Yeah the pockets were really big:rolleyes:

what is the average price for table time these days?

Table size has nothing to do with pocket size.

You probably loved the table because of it's disproportionately large pockets. People who are better at shot-making than precision position play also tend to benefit from larger tables because of the decreased clutter.

At $14/hr I better be running racks, which may explain the pockets - LOL

Being a fellow Bostonian I know how hard it can be to find a table in the metro area - where were you playing anyway?

I went down the street in Northbough, MA at some bowling alley. I think it was an older brunswick with plastic buckets. Maybe I'll try my luck at the Green Room 9 ball torney tonight(tighter pockets there:mad:)

So you're saying $14/hour is the day rate?

Certainly rates are somewhat related to real estate prices and rental rates and I would think depending on where in Boston your room is located it could be that much, but during the day is way high.

I live in S. Orange County in Southern California and real estate is very pricey here. Even then, my pool room, which is on the expensive side, is $7/hour for any number of players during the day, and $12 at night. That sounds expensive, but there are considerations. I can go to Hard Times in Bellflower where the real estate is cheaper, and practice alone for $3.50/hr, but for two people the rate is $6.50, so it's not that much less if you're not alone.

And many rooms that serve food offer an hour of free table time when you come in for lunch.

Suggestion

Buy a 9 foot table for home and enjoy playing on the best size table made. In addition you will avoid the 14 dollar per hour rate in your high dollar area.

Holy shit, I only pay 3.50 an hour for one person practice and 7.50 for two people and up. You are getting raped! No wonder the pockets are big :D

At $14/hr. my 9' Diamond Pro Am would pay for itself in just under 1 year at 1 hr/day... actually in 357.14 days. :groucho:

Don't get misguided, the balls are bigger too so that negates the increased pocket size.

no there not. the only balls that may be a different size are on a barbox, carom or snooker table. if you're playing in a pool hall they should all be 2.25 inches regardless of 8 or 9 foot table. that's what makes diamond or brunswick tournament tables with smaller pockets (or shimming or extending the rails on any other table) harder to play on. the size of the pocket shrinks in regard to the standard size ball.

LOL, I know, that was supposed to be a joke.
