A confession regarding The Hustlers.

I beg to differ, my friend.
They have to follow some sort of script or else the footage would be chaotic.
You think reality shows are without a script and/or direction?
That's nonsense!

Producers aren't going to waste money on film and have the actors do whatever
they want.

As for Hustlers, you can bet the players are told pretty much their roles.
Who wins, how it's won, and so forth are all scripted.
Again, the editing makes this dynamic look really good.

You can also bet that the casting directors for this show auditioned these player/actors for good reason.
They can follow directions and do it in front of the camera(s)!
To a degree you are correct. If you read the profiles of the players.

You will see they are all playing sort of parts. Good guys, bad guys all the things you may see in say wrestling. It is not to say they are not really like that in real life but they were selected for reasons.

There is a difference though in being cast for your personality and being cast for your ability to act out a personality.

YOU ARE S0 WRONG I WANT A BIGGER FONT
they are all local players..one is my best friend i have been told what was going on throughout filming...i was then a guest opponent to someone and all they did was mic everyone up are they being edited?absolutely(without the players input) but all the characters were picked for who they are normally.is it a show yes..is it a tournament no the outcomes are real
did they put some shot fillers in or miss-edit probably.\this is getting old
all you producers and directors feel free to start your own show, get it picked up and let the azcommunity have at you..
stop hating its so fckin annoying to see people who know less than nothing continue to babble..
when the grandmother on a sitcom goes out and beats the guy in the local poolhall for tens of thousands of dollars because he hustled there son/grandson do you go on tv forums and talk about how impossible it is?

Yes, as long as they don't become caricatures of themselves. I think the girlfriend over does it a little. You listen to her and wonder who in the world would want to be with this girl. I hope she is just over acting, I would hate to think she is really like that.

Sorry, scttybee. Wasn't trying to be hijack or be negative.
I love the show.

I'm just throwing my knowledge around.

Okay, so these players aren't actors, but they can follow directions and make it believable.
That's what actors do anyways, right?

read my other reply i am done because you are throwing out lack of knowledge right now and its hard to read

You're talking about some shit that you know nothing about. You're just guessing. You have no clue how any of it was made or directed. You're struggling with the fact that 70 hours of camera time gets about 45 minutes of TV.

I will say this though...there were times we got to barking and the cameras didn't want to film the game. Those games got played anyway...for thousands no less. People bet a whole lot more than you're going to see on the show. It's edited for sure but one thing the show is not fake. I can't wait for you to see how this all plays out at the end and then you tell me how logical your premise is.

Just another knocker who once again spouts off when if you had some sense you could have just asked me in a private message and I would have answered you like I do everyone else.

Do you know if this was a one time thing or is there plans for a second installment?

Depends on the viewers. Production company is pulling for as many seasons as possible. We need more and more viewers each week. Right now that is the only thing that will get a season 2.

Wow, you have absolutely no idea how reality shows are done!

Here's how they work:
They take people who are already colorful, and record them interacting with each other. We're talking hundreds, if not thousands of hours of footage.
Then, the editors watch all this footage, cute out about 80% plus of it, and carefully edit it to produce the story lines they want to show. That's how it works.

Also, lol at "wasting film." Everything is recorded digitally now.

I felt the same and went out after watching it and played some. I think its a good show for the masses, not realistic but reality shows these days are not reality. It could do good for the industry, poolrooms and getting some new action for gambling. Can't wait for the first fish I play who says they love the show and started getting into money matches because of it. :)

LOL! Thanks for the chuckle Lenny...

This I agree with but as any of us have witnessed if you've spent a decent amount of time on this earth, sometimes there are things between a man and a woman that only they understand.

I have to say this post is pretty irritating to me cause I know you're speaking about something that you absolutely have zero direct knowledge of. I have had interactions with just about everyone on the show and have been at Steinway during multiple film days. I can tell you w/o any doubt none of these people are acting. If anything they are showing them more tame than they actually are. If you want proof that a pool can't act go watch the movie 9 ball and come back and tell me these guys are putting on a facade

Based on this, does recording them count as viewers? Serious question because I honestly don't know how this works.
I usually can't watch them Friday night but I have it set to record so I can watch later. Would guess it would count but not positive.

I like the show, btw. Even my wife is like...WTF...why won't anyone play even and she knows next to nothing about pool.

Bingo. It must be a combination of playing it up for the camera, and being good at other activities.

Her negative talk during her boyfriends game, and his lack of telling her to STFU is impressive. She must be real good...:)

Nothing counts for as much as watching it live with the ads playing. The advertisers want to know people are watching and will watch their commercials. That's why the people who watch online it's so key they don't jumper around the commercials.

I'm coming to know a lot about ratings all of the sudden and just to keep it simple the best thing to do for any viewer is to leave it on that channel for the entire time the show is on. Your TV doesn't even have to have the power on just leave your box on TruTV and go out. If you have very new equipment though that can detect if your tv is actually on then you have to leave them both on.

I just watch it online, I'm sure they can track that as easily as anything else.
My son actually wants to make the show "our" show to watch like him and his mother watch Walking Dead every week LOL.

I wonder if the TV people footed the 1k bill for Amy's cues, no way would anyone dump 1k on cues for a new player unless they had money coming out the ears.

To a degree you are correct. If you read the profiles of the players.

Not sure how truthful those bio's are

Unlike his partner Finnegan, Gary has only been playing pool for three years.

However we have this from three years ago:
