A few questions

Hello guys, great forum, been browsing it a few days now.
I'm gonna get myself a new playing cue but I don't have enough experience with cues, so I wanted to ask a few things. I narrowed it to a few choices wich are in my price range /around $220/:
Lucasi butt + Tiger X 30'
Lucasi butt + 314 pre cat
Joss or Pechauer JP series
What bothers me on the Tiger X is its taper, i use a long open bridge and i prefer a more conical taper.. How does this shaft compare to the other ones in therms of that? Will it climb on my bridge at the point where the taper ends? Atm i play with a Cuetec SST and i hate the taper..
I prefer a solid hit, i read somewhere that the old 314 is more of a solid hitter than the new series.. What do you think about that?
Does a layered tip make a significant difference in the gameplay, does anyone prefer a good old Triangle or Le pro tip?
Anyways, which of these cues whould you prefer yourself? I come from a place where pool is not very popular, so i got no friends to ask for tips. Any help will be much appriciated.
Cheers.

I just went thru a month or so of brain damage trying to figure out what to buy in the same price range.I finally went to a local Billiards dealer and asked them to match internet pricing which is about 20 percent lower then in a retail store. I figured it was worth a shot given the slow economy. They agreed to this so here is what i found out looking at cues in person.
Joss-Mcdermott-Lucasi and Viking=Fit and finish about the same and not bad for the price Hit and balance was very close on all.
But heres where the big differance was-taper and color of the shafts.I like a certain taper and a very clean shaft, all these cues were differant.(The shafts differed even between the same brands. This is what a low end production cue is all about)The Lucasi had the shaft taper I like and a very clean shaft and thats the one i chose. So if you buy them off the net i think it is a gamble how the shaft will look. So it cost me just the sales tax to see and play with each brand in person. So far i am very pleased with my cue. I noticed you are in a place where pool is not very popular so if there are no Billiards dealers near you it might be worth the time to take a little road trip to find a store. Where are you ?

Hey, thanks for your response.
I live in Bulgaria, that's a country in South Europe. The local "dealers" are nothing but a few shmucks who order cues from e-bay and sell them way overpriced.
I really can't make my mind on what cue i should buy.. Maybe the Tiger X with Lucasi butt will be the best choice after all, altho i might hate the taper. Lucasi L-EL + Tiger X 30' shaft + hard case would cost me $206, i think it's a pretty good deal. I read a few very positive reviews for this shaft, people seem to like it..

Bama has offered 2 great custom sneaky petes for $245 dollars in the last week. IMO they are a clear choice of others you have listed.

if you like a conical taper... may I suggest a cheap joss butt + an OB2 shaft?

Some online retailers let you exchange the standard shaft and upgrade it to an OB.

If you're not into sneakies, you can get some real nice looking (and playing) Pechauers for under $300. I played with one for several years, and loved it. The craftsmanship and execution were very high quality, and the price was quite reasonable. Most Pechauer cues are "production cues" rather than customs, but they are high quality, family made, and made in the US, not China.
