A few thoughts on the "AZ family".

I posted this on another thread for an enthusiastic newbie who had become quickly disillusioned. We'll leave him nameless.

Neverthless, the idea of this forum as a "family" deserves some discussion, all related to pool, of course.

Hey there L&L, just a few words to describe the AZ "family":

Think of the Soprano family, with a ruthless leader at the top who will dispatch you to the deep sea if you cross him. We call him Warden Wilson.
Also we have a division of members in prison, aka banned. Some are temporary, others are lifers. Believe it or not, some have been "institutionalized" and even when they're banned, they sneak back in here under pseudonyms. That's how sick this family can be.

Otherwise, we're a bunch or warring, whining, fighting cousins, just waiting to pounce on the next dunce who posts about his aiming system or his day working with Saint Stan.

And more than a few of us have made our homes in pool halls around the world, idly passing time until the next tuna enters the room. He'll leave penniless soon thereafter.

Family? This is the sickest family going. Please check back soon for more abuse.

Your experience here is determined by what (and who) you involve yourself with. JMO.

I try to stay out of the crazy topics. Everyone I have met in person from AZB has been great! Give it a little time and you learn who is worth listening to and who is full of it. But, that said, you have to have a thick skin if you start posting about anything that can be disagreed with :)

Think 'tank'

Yeah..that's how I look at AZ...a think tank

A lot of good thoughts come from this forum....
..and if we weren't a bit dysfunctional..it wouldn't be so fertile.

Regardless of how people go off sometimes..the foundation of any
forum is empathy...people need people.

And what would this place be like without a moderator....
.heard a lot of people complain about cops...
..'till they gotta call 911

regards
pt..<...who thinks your 'waterboarding' offer was somewhat rhetorical..
..therefore some verbal satisfaction may appease LWW

Our lives are determined by 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it.

As Mr. Spock would say. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." Such is the nature of a forum. :)

Most of us are here to speak on pool topics with other people that care about or are knowledgeable of pool. Just like any other specialized forum on the internet. If poster felt alienated, Im sure he was feeling left out at his local pool room as well, and came here looking for refuge.

This place is one big pool room, from the "Wanted" section to the gloating on "Cue/Case Gallery" to all the aiming systems and the "Action", can all be found at any pool room in the country.

Get in where you fit in, and apparently he didnt feel he fit in.

Family?

All families have problems. Az'ers will talk that's for sure and it's a good thing. As I tell the kids PICK YOUR BATTLES!! It's not necessary to read all posts or respond to them. I personally enjoy the road warrior stories as that was my generation. Going on the road nowadays would be cost prohibitive. Hit em good and be nice!

I think the AZ-family is great.

I've made a lot of new friends on here, and as a direct result of AZ and it's people I've travelled to Philippines and Derby City Classic to play pool. I've met dozens of AZ'ers, and all of them have been nice, friendly and best of all, they share my passion for pool.

My only regret about AZ is that I didn't find this site earlier, and that I can't travel around for all kind of events and meet a lot more of the people posting here.

If you have negative experiences with AZ it is probably a reason for that. Maybe you are a negative person?

Yes, AZ billiards is a cool place and there is lots of knowledgeable and nice people.

However, I can see how some people could be turned off.
All you have to do is read a few threads:

personal attacks,
religious CTE followers and the pagans slinging back and forth,
transactions going bad,
attacks on newbies over stupid questions,
ass kissing of 'reputable' members,
drooling over chicks……..

I would say the poster has a point to a degree.

All in all best place on the internet for pool information and if AZ would disappear we all would have a void in our lives.

If there's such a thing as a "virtual pool room" this would be it.

You ain't a Forum member until you have been seriously flamed." What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

By the way , where is this AJL guy? I'm starting to feel funny about this
business all over again.

It's not a family, it's a small community. It's also a microcosm of life. One thing I can walk away from posting on these forums is to appreciate the differences between people. It's given me a small glimpse into human nature.

Of course, there are some people who are completely worthy of scorn because of what they do - things that are universally contemptible. What I have observed is there are some people who selectively make a choice to disrespect or mistreat others for less obvious reasons. I do not understand why they do it. Maybe it's just because they can. Maybe it's the thrill of being anonymous.

Have no fear, the Golden Rule is alive and well and in our faces every day here at AZ Billiards!

Chris

PS. Dave Wilson is just a guy doing his job. It's a thankless job at that, and you can thank Dave for maintaining the peace here for all of us.

Bch, it is TJL, not AJL. A mistake was made!

Look up TJL, he posted on my thread about how is your pool game going in 2011?
He is a real player now, last I heard you had the 7 and the slap! Take care.
