You want a touching story here is one.
I play on a APA league. The team co captain and her friend were sitting near by when I was shooting during the last summer session (2007). They were getting very loud with their talking and laughing. I was getting ready to shoot and the noise was really getting to me. I looked at them and said in a harsh voice could you please keep it down while I am shooting. They looked at me and said they were sorry and didn't realize that they were so loud.
After my match the co captain said that they were just trying to have a good time as the other girl, Jennifer, was starting kemo the next day.
This lady, Jennifer had beaten breast cancer and now has colon cancer. She is in her late 20's.
She is now on our team as a 2. We play on Monday and that is the same day she gets her Kemo. I don't know how she does it. She shows up with a smile and never cries to anyone about her situation. She still works and puts in 8 to 10 hours a day. She says she needs to do that to keep her mind occupied. She wasn't supposed to survive past last Christmas. She kept doing the kemo and things were going pretty good. About 2 months ago things turned for the worst and the end is now getting closer. She decided to quit doing the kemo because of the effects and no improvement. Her spirits are down and she sees no hope for things to get better. Her boyfriend, God bless him, recently married her so he could become the father to her present children. He also now plays on our team as a 3. They basically play for a night out and to do something they enjoy.
This is all true and if you have the time all you have to do is drive down I75 to see them tomorrow night, Monday July 14 at Rack and Roll Billiards on Sibley Road by Fort Street in Riverview Mi. I think they will be there but not sure as one of our team members let her and her husband use his Florida condo for the last week and I don't know if they will be back.
I never really paid much attention but I don't think they have their own cue stick. Neither have the money because of the medical expenses.
Being fairly close this would also give you the chance to have the pleasure of meeting and prensenting the cue to a deserving couple.
